Great article. I only leaenrd about the felony murder rule last year during a Lenten series at a church on problems with our criminal justice system. I've been a volunteer in Maryland prisons on and off for the past 17 years and have met several good people serving life sentences probably because of this rule which I would like to change. I need to find like-minded people here in Maryland in order to do so. The most fantastic application of the rule which I found on the internet was an inmate in Florida now serving a life sentence for lending his car at a party to some friends who used it to go someone's house to buy drugs where someone was killed in the altercation there. The prosecutor gave the car lender a chance to plead to a lesser charge. However, not knowing about this rule, the car lender chose to go to trial where he was convicted of first degree murder by this rule. The prosecutor's argument was no car, no crime. By this logic, the car salesman who sold the inmate the car should also be charged with first degree murder.
