We had our first snowfall (4") during the second week of October this year(NE PA). I'm certain that the global warning "scientists" (term used loosely) have some trumped-up explanation. The neighborhood youth no longer shovel snow for extra cash like old days. That may have something to do with the "widow-maker" moniker.

Perhaps, but I suspect not, as the expression goes back many decades.
