There's the dumb way, the dumber way, and the Obama way --If the Post Office took over UPS and FedEx:

I understand the point the President was trying to convey here, but, once again is completely off the mark.
UPS and FedEx have been successful despite having an unequal playing field (they can't use residential mailboxes, have to pay for their own buildings and trucks, etc). We have to keep in mind that these businesses were created to fill a void that the US Postal Service created.
These business models, in fact, foster competition with one another and by osmosis the USPS has become more efficient as a result of their innovations to serve the consumer.
