Posted by: Gagdad Bob at May 15, 2008 9:30 PMA picture *is* worth a thousand words.
Posted by: pdwalker at May 15, 2008 9:51 PMWell, I guess that's it then.
Civilization has reached it's apex and it's all down hill from here.
It's officially time for me to go up into the mountains and live in a cave.
Cheerio!
Posted by: Mumblix Grumph at May 15, 2008 10:50 PMCertainly not the picture I have in mind for the word "recession."

Posted by: Mark Alger at May 16, 2008 6:06 AMHo-lee-shee-it. That's really something...really. I'm at a bit of a loss here.
And I don't know, Freeburg. Look at how this poor woman has been forced to resort to using the segway to get her baby around due to her decreased spending power. Just think of how many shoes she would go through if she had to walk.
Posted by: Andy at May 16, 2008 7:24 AMI bet she's on her way to the gym.
Posted by: Robin at May 16, 2008 8:47 AMIrresponsible comes to mind...of course, that's a mild word for all that the picture conveys...
Posted by: Uncle Jefe at May 16, 2008 9:50 AMMany years ago, about forty or more, I read a science fiction story in which humans had evolved to the point at which legs were atrophied, and they all had personal motorized vehicles, similar to the ones advertised for the handicapped on TV. As I recall there were a few throwbacks to being fully limbed, and they eventually left the non-walkers to die.
More and more I find science fiction preceding reality....and it isn't the happy-ever-after type.

big baby, little lady
...but which is which
Maybe its because I live in a place with normal people, but who knew anybody even used a Sedgeway any more? Just think - its sitting there in the garage, its gathering dust, why not take the baby out for a push?
Posted by: ColoradoRight at May 16, 2008 1:29 PMTell me where this place with normal people is - I need a vacation.
Posted by: Andy at May 16, 2008 1:59 PMI have several grandchildren and without exception their parents use strollers and all other mechanical baby holders rarely. (The exception being ALWAYS in the safety seat in the car.)
They do this because they want their babies to figure out that they are PEOPLE - not plastic pets. Here we have a "baby in a bucket" being pushed by a "mommy on an upright gurney."
A walk holding hands or with baby being carried is a bonding and learning experience. A walk with the little one strapped to a contrivance is, well, contrived. And a walk with all the humans detached from the earth and their own power of mobility is a sham.
Only in America. Only those too affluent or profoundly clueless or both. Only - surely it can be said - the liberoid megalopolis dweller.
The blessing is that these Obama-droids need not be feared. As only one offspring can be propelled by Segway or in a "smart car", they will fail to breed themselves into history soon.
Posted by: askmom at May 16, 2008 6:00 PMFirst time I saw that pic, I wondered...how come Segway hasn't come out with a stroller? I mean, why not? Seems like a logical extension, doesn't it?
