The Unbearable Persistence of George Bush

A brief observation. Troops being withdrawn in sizable numbers from Iraq. Coalition troops and special forces flowing across the illusory borders of Afghanistan into Pakistan in search of "top terrorists" presumed to be hiding in these tribal areas. Perhaps George Bush does have a few things left he can do to help Republicans win after all. And all he has to do is stay in the office and do his job. It's... it's... it's all so insanely Roveian in conception and execution.

It may in fact help the Republicans win in November. I hope it does. But it's also the right thing to do at this phase of the war. Iraq, whether you were for or against the invasion, is drawing to a successful, if tardy, conclusion. It's now time to shift forces to where they're needed, and that's the Afghan theater. Should the whole Terrorist War have been fought differently? Perhaps, but this is what needs to be done now, and I'm happy to see Bush issuing the orders.

I hope to God Almighty that we catch OBL a week or two before the election, flying him to New York in an orange jumpsuit and in handcuffs. The left will go ape!

I think Bush took a good long look at the Congress, the parties, and media sometime late last fall and just said, "Okay, fuck 'em" and since then has gone about his business of finishing as many of his tasks as were in his personal power to complete.

The Reid & Pelosi Show alone has far and away justified such an attitude. Where the campaigns are concerned, I bet Mr. Rove counseled President Bush by phone after the Biden pick that it would be McCain by at least thirty electoral votes, and not to worry. Putin, Chavez, Morales, and the leftard from Honduras whose name I cannot recall are all acting to hurt BOOOOOSH but all they are accomplishing is to remind Mr. and Mrs. American Idol fan that there are indeed evil folk out there that need dealing with... and Mr. and Mrs. already know which party is the go-to for that job.

I don't think it will be very long before Bush starts rising inexorably in the legacy column. Not that he measures himself that way, of course.

Children or grownups. Which party do YOU want to be affiliated with, Mr. and Mrs.?

I'm looking for a Biden Gone pool. There's money to be made there, I am thinking.
