Strong Horse Wins Race. World Stunned.

TO JUDGE BY NEWS AND BLOGSPHERE REACTION, you'd think an asteroid has hit the Earth and shaken the crust around the planet: Palestinian leadership hit by political earthquake. Everywhere you browse, jaws have dropped -- "I never saw it comin' ", "Whoa, Nelly!", and "Who'da thunk it?" reactions abound.

Me, I don't get all this "shock, horror, surprise." I'm not surprised for a nanosecond. I mean, really, why wouldn't Hamas win going away? They've got the will to kill and the track record. They've got the guns and the goons, and they've had them for years. They've got Jimmy Carter on deck certifying the latest Fascist election and Stephen Speilberg honoring their feelings and boosting their self-esteem. They are the cocks of the walk in the ratty strips of land bracketing Israel and they've got the money too.

Plus they ran on that winning campaign slogan that they've run on for years: "Let's just kill all the Jews now!"

This is a campaign slogan, program, policy and plan that Arabs of all stripes in

Palestine and beyond can get behind and support without reservation.

No surprise to me Hamas won. No surprise at all. They are the kind of "democratic" government that the Palestinians will elect first, last and always.

Hamas is, in the words of Osama Bin Ladin himself, the strong horse , and the strong horse always wins the support of the Arab majority: ".... when people see a strong horse and a weak horse, by nature, they will like the strong horse."

Over the years, I've had (as we have all had) discussions without number concerning the "problem" of Israel. I'm almost always on the short end of this endless stick since my position is that, at the end of the bloody day, the only thing that will bring peace to the region is the sword.

People hate this kind of thinking because they all have a large investment in "peace" and the use of "dialogue" to achieve it. And there are many, many instances in the world and down through history where this is, indeed, the correct and only route to take.

But Israel vs. the Arabs isn't one of them.

This will only be settled, and can only be settled, by war. There's just too much blood on the ground. The Arab/Israeli conflict isn't a political or geographical or economic or religious "dispute." This is a blood feud, pure and simple and brutal. It will end in simple brutality. The side that can be the most brutal the quickest will win.

If the Israelis win, the Palestinians and every Arab state that comes to their aid will have to be reduced to an utter and crushing defeat. If the Palestinians win, the Israelis will simply be slaughtered wherever they can be found. One side is crushed or the other side is annihilated. It is a simple choice, but it is clear we are dealing -- as today's election results underscore -- with a simple people.

What will happen here will not look like peace. It will look like, for one side or the other, victory.

Well, that's a little more nuanced, but I don't think Hamas actually has the wherewithal for a "Full scale war" with Israel.

You maybe entirely correct that it will come down to a fight, but I think Hamas is already starting to think about hedging about the whole 'wipe Israel off the map' thing.

But things are never as bad (or good) as people think.

I agree that Hamas does not have the wherewithal for a full scale war, but Israel does.

All Things Beautiful TrackBack A Dark Victory

"The radical Islamist movement Hamas win the Palestinian elections. A Dark Victory for the rest of the world....At last a voice of reason from the great Gerard van der Leun: "Over the years, I've had (as we have all had) discussions without number concerning the "problem" of Israel. I'm almost always on the short end of this endless stick since my position is that, at the end of the bloody day, the only thing that will bring peace to the region is the sword."

Very well put. Why do so many people have such a hard time understanding this?

Then Israel loses. If it's a matter of the side that can be the must brutal wins, Israel definitely loses. I do not mean that Israel will not defend itself, but Israel wages war according to the rules of war. The Arabs do not. Israel is not willing wantonly to kill women and children; the Arabs have proven that they will. Because jihad is the duty of every Muslim, every Arab Muslim will try to kill Jews. We who belong to a Judaeo-Christian tradition first have to lose many lives before we descend to that level of barbarity; even then, we cringe at it. If Israel is to win, then they must adopt a genocide frame of mind. I can't see that happening.
