Interviewing Eagles of Death Metal's Jesse Hughes about the Bataclan attack in Paris that killed 89 of his fans

aeagledeathmetal.jpg

Takimag: It’s hard to talk about the attack without sounding like you’re blaming the victims, but it’s impossible to deny fear of Islamophobia and fear of guns led to a lot of deaths that night.

Jesse Hughes: I saw fear fall like a blanket on the whole crowd and they fell like wheat in the wind—the way you would before a god. I was totally alert from the very beginning. The first thing I needed to do was find my girl. Fear took a backseat and “where’s my girl?” took over. I could smell gunpowder in the backstage area and I knew someone fired a round back there. I saw a guy with an FAL and when he turned to face me his eyes looked like marbles. He was stoned out of his mind, and we now know they were on Xanax and cocaine. I recognized him. I’d seen him earlier in the day and noticed him staring at us......

Takimag: I went to Paris after the attacks and was disgusted by the lack of rage. They didn’t blame Islam. In fact, many blamed the Jews. They seemed more concerned with us promoting xenophobia than laying blame on the terrorists.

Jesse Hughes: I hung out with plenty of Parisians who were fucking pissed off, but it was mostly cops and military. During the attack, one cop finally realized it wasn’t a hostage situation and yelled out, “It’s a turkey shoot” as he charged in, holding his gun. He got shot right through the hand and into the neck and kept going. He took a terrorist out, chased another one into the hallway, who then blew himself up, and did it to another guy, who blew himself up on stage. Our amplifiers were a gory mess.

Did that cop live?

Yes, I met him in triage. I hung out with him. Great guy.

You went to the hospital?

I had pieces of teeth and human bone pulled out of my face. A girl got shot right next to me by the shooter at the top of the stairs who I had met earlier. She stepped one step in front of me and her head just exploded. It blew pieces of her teeth and skull into my face.....

I saw the Youtube video of this. What I found shocking were the comments. People mocking him for tearing up during the interview, denying it happened, false flag, etc. Fifteen years ago, I heard people who had witnessed the twin tower attacks on 9/11, people that had been covered in dust, just barely escaping death, and forced to walk back to Long Island, complain that a week after the event they were "tired of hearing about it".

I wrote this after the attacks in Paris:

Wishful thinking? Probably. But one can hope.

Rule Number 1: Avoid crowds.

I realize that I will be branded a heartless son of a bitch, but really: How fucking stupid do you have to be to willingly put yourself at that level of vulnerability, just to be assaulted with several hours of headbanger tantrums?

In 2015.

In a city and continent full of Moslem terrorists.

Hate to say it, but this may prove Darwin was right. Hughes says it himself, people just surrendered their self-preservation on the spot. Pray that they didn't pass on that genetic code before giving up.

Also, the fact that anybody who would pay to be subjected to a "band" calling itself "Eagles of Death Metal" would prove to be a zombie surprises me not at all.

I knew of the band via a friend, who knows them well.

Hughes is a weird dude.

He is NOT a Catholic priest.

He is a member of the Universal Life Church.

Hughes "bashes Obama and praises Ronald Reagan, as he sermonizes on his Internet radio show, all while surrounded by sex, drinks, Elvis, Satan, and of course, the Bible."
I don't know who writes these things or where they get their information. One would think from Hughes himself. At any rate, you may call him a "walking contradiction" as the article does, I suspect bullshitter is more likely. Credibility rating : low. For me, anyway.

Agreed. I have known too many cats like Jesse. Too much of him comes through in a relatively short time. After the massacre, I checked out a video of the band playing, just out of curiosity. Meh. Not my cup o' tea. Lousy entertainment or not, I feel very badly for those forced to endure this horror. Hughes gets a mike and a camera stuck in front of him, but there are hundreds who will never be able to publicly share their story. At least by his repeated testimonies this story may remain in the public consciousness and not disappear like so many of the others have.

Re: the advice not to go to concerts

Um, you do know that Muhammad forbids all music. So you are advising dhimmitude.

How stupid do you have to be, to advise that? Are you next going to advise that people avoid any group activity, including being in the military, because oh noes, something bad might happen?

If we avoid all crowds, something bad will happen. Our civic and social life will disappear, and the terrorists really will win.

Um, you do know that Muhammad forbids all music. So you are advising dhimmitude.

OK, first of all I've made much of my living as a singer for over 50 years. In my opinion "Eagles of Death Metal" advertises by its very name that "music" is not what they've got to offer.

Second, I've observed for even longer that people who habitually gather into large groups for the purpose of feeling OK about themselves are for the most part lock-step individualists and rarely able to think for themselves. John D. MacDonald once said that the collective IQ of a mob could be determined by taking the lowest IQ present and dividing it by the number in attendance, and that definitely comports with my experience of rock "music" concerts.

Add the current climate of international insanity to that mix and I am very comfortable stating that anybody who willingly goes where there are crowds of "rock fans" is a damn fool. I feel the same way about people who skin dive where there are sharks.
