News to Me: Thursday April 2

I'm looking at using this feature of Twitter as a way of tracking items of interest in the 200 odd (some very odd) pages I follow on a daily basis. Sort of like a rolling Instapundit scroll with enforced terseness. I'd like to know from readers how this item loads in their browsers. Any feedback would be appreciated.

It is a nice big black square. Is that the news today?

IE7 build(7.0.5730.13) shows a big black box.

Apple Safari build 3.2.2(535.28.1) renders it as a list of items, brown text on a white background. Looks like what was up on your sidebar yesterday. Your page runs off the right side of my screen on the Safari browser.

I never bothered to install Firefox or Opera. maybe I'll do that later, but I gotta GBTW.

The "black box" opened, but it took three minutes

That's important to know. Three minutes to load is way too long. It may well have to do with the server strain on twitter. This doesn't look like a solution.

I've made the page wider for bigger pictures in the main column and the sidebar to accomodate wider monitors. If the page runs off the right side, it may be because the monitor is too narrow. If that's the case, is there a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom?

Looks good. Loads quickly (less than 3 sec) and formatting is great all around. I'm using Safari 3.2.1 on a wireless network.

What do you follow on- an iPhone? I can't bring myself to plunk down for the monthly charge on one.

It looks fine on Firefox (and a Mac). With Broadband, it takes 15-20 seconds to load.

Absolutely not. iPhone is one of the biggest money pits going.

Large black box, does not open (Firefox).

Humm... I'm currently seeing 6 second load times in Firefox for Mac on a comcast.net broadband connection. Is yours different.

Sounds like one of those rare times Safari might be performing better than Firefox.

Sometimes there's a lot of black, and then it resolves to the color twitter within 30 secs.....

If not you, who? But hope it doesn't distract you from in-depth writing. I liked the Via stuff, but since Twitter is more current, I'd say go for it.

But on your sidebar, not necessarily at the top. Never on your left main.

I'll be an informal follower, but please don't ask me to sign up on Twitter. I like Twitter better than Facebook, the ultimate ego trip.

One last thought: as you know, I've linked directly to you on my sidebar, so I can by-pass your AD site, and mainline it without you as middleman. There's no load problem that way. I'll still be here often either way....and there too.

Thanks for asking and listening....

Vista, IE8, takes about 2 seconds, looks fine. However, when you had it on the sidebar a couple days ago, occasionally it didn't load at all.

Back again: It's now loading in IE7. Looks ok to me.

And yes, there was a horizontal scroll bar on Safari.

Firefox 3.0.8, Win XP Home SP3

Looks good, works fine.
