Note

starsgibberish.jpg

It would seem that some side-effects of being recently dead still linger. Chief among them is a strange side-effect in which food that normally tastes delicious either tastes bland, utterly unappealing, or nauseous.

More disconcerting still seeems to be a tendncy on the past of my hands to type with a focus that comes and goos randlmly.
Although I did keep notes, off and on, and althoj=gh I have several sourvces of witynesses, it's going to take awhile to come pbak to full utility. [<-- That last sentence left as typed to illustrate the problem.]

Did they send you home with enough meds to supply a WWII Red Cross ship? If so, it's probably that.

Steady On.

It goes away.

Posted by: Ed McCabe at October 27, 2011 7:58 AM

...And you still write better than 99% of the internet.

Get weller.

Don’t sweat the small stuff, just glad you’re back.

Unfocussed, typos…whatever…let ‘er rip, we’ll adjust.

The anesthetics and dyes used in your medical care will mess up your sense of taste. It takes awhile for them to be flushed out of your system.

Posted by: Deborah at October 27, 2011 8:35 AM

Take your time. We're just glad - very glad - you're still with us.

Posted by: Julie at October 27, 2011 8:38 AM

I'll trade post op stories with anybody. The drugs mess up your taste/smell/sight. Bad for your reflexes too, so don't drive the ca for a while.

Posted by: f1guyus at October 27, 2011 8:58 AM

Well, just write with only one hand tied behind your back until it goes away.

Posted by: ahem at October 27, 2011 9:03 AM

Well, it's a god think we have spill clackers

Posted by: pdwalker at October 27, 2011 9:04 AM

Who's checkin' yer spellin'? Not me, that's not who's.

Posted by: Jewel at October 27, 2011 9:08 AM

Gerard, I'm right in line behind you, so what's the scoop? Bright light, or wailing and gnashing of teeth? How big of a hit are we going to take on this lust thing?

Posted by: Casca at October 27, 2011 9:22 AM

Well, at least the pressure is finally off me. And any grammatical and/or spelling errors I make in the future will obviously be in a heartfelt spirit of solidarity. Take your time! It's just good to have you back!

My fingers betray me on the keyboard all the time.

So what's my excuse?

Posted by: Don Rodrigo at October 27, 2011 9:51 AM

Since you are the only writer who I have seen use the adjective "nauseous" correctly, sir, I would say that you are well ahead of the game already.

Gully Foyle is my name and Terra is my nation
Deep space is my dwelling place
The stars my destination.

Get well more better soon!

Get well soon to be sure!
But food can not be or seem nauseous. It can, however, be nauseating.
I had a similar experience after apnea surgery: mayonnaise, which I previously rather liked, was revolting to me. That faded over time.

Posted by: BlogDog at October 27, 2011 12:04 PM

I type like that almost all the time.

And don't see the problem unless somebody quotes me.

Posted by: Larry Sheldon at October 27, 2011 2:13 PM

Glad you are here. Be well.

Posted by: Larry Sheldon at October 27, 2011 2:14 PM

Bingley. Good catch.

GVDL. Look on the bright side. With this new firmware you should be able to understand Robert Gagdad Bob Godwin. You might try Finnegan's Wake, too. In fact, I'd say you might moonlight over at One Cosmos as a neologiistician.
Welcome back.

GREAT NEWS!

I found Awhile (the 20/15 eyesight Awhile has amazes me to this day) and Awhile said, although the negotiations were tenuous, he hopes you take more of Awhile for a long, long time.

God bless.

Posted by: notquiteunBuckley at October 27, 2011 7:37 PM

Look on the bright side. Food tastes bad. Eat less. That's what I did and didn't miss the food or the pounds. It goes away in 30 days or so.

Your typing looks good to me. At my best, am much worse than that. It's the thought that counts.

Posted by: Jimmy J. at October 27, 2011 8:21 PM

Gerard, have you been in touch with Robin Starfish? I'd love to sit in a room and listen while the two of you compared notes.

Gerard, I finally read The Stars My Destination because of you. Thankyou.

I would think the mortal-coil would have a few wrinkles in it when putting it back on, Gerard.

No worries about the mittens, whats most important is that your executive secretary (mind) is on the same page as you are. That, at least, seems to be wrinkle free.

Ah yes, I typo as fst as I cna tooo. Teh computer doesn't spelgud either.

As a cardiac nurse, I can only say that it does get better and getting back on the horse is the best medicine. The cardiac meds can mess with your mind and your energy levels and often need decreased.
I have not read what happened, but am piecing together a heart attack or lethal rhythm that required shock. Take your vitamins and may you have as many years as your mother has had.

So glad you're still here!

Type any way you feel like.
