Moving In

a_adas_israel_synagogue_-_moving_day.jpg

After more than 60 days in the wilderness of California, the next few days will be taken up with the final steps of my move from Seattle.

As a consequence internet access and overall energy may cause a momentary interruption in this page which has, I note, already survived one wife, one death, two long distance moves, and ten years.

I'm sure I'll be fit as a fiddle by next week and not at all undone by this particular ordeal.....

Glad you're coming to rest, Gerard. Moving is one long root canal. Hope you've landed in a town that didn't sell its soul to the Chicago Easter Bunny -- not easy to do in California, though easier than in the Seattle area.

Moving. Nothing fun about it. But then it's all done and you have your morning coffee in an entirely new room. New smells, new colors, new light on the kitchen wall. Soon enough you'll be there. Are you anywhere near the Southland?

California, eh? They need a few good men like you to straighten things out.

2 Samuel 7:28-29 And now, O Lord God, you are God, and your words are true, and you have promised this good thing to your servant. Now therefore may it please you to bless the house of your servant, so that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord God, have spoken, and with your blessing shall the house of your servant be blessed forever.

How many cubic feet of stuff to unpack? Are you feeling a new-found attraction to ebooks?

Congratulations.

Gerald,
Enjoy your writings for years. Thank you!

Just moved from a small town in Northern California to Los Angeles two weeks ago. I was/am in your second picture (except the boxes are still full.)

Good luck with the phone service (took me over ten days just for basic service!!) and everything else!!

I have been living in NE California for the past 26 years. Redding is rapidly becoming the Berkeley of Shasta Co. But the eastern part is too cold for idiots.

Don't know where "wilderness" is, but hope it is near a high speed internet box.

Hey, Mr. V! Do you need help unpacking?

@Arthurstone: Ah, Artie. How nice of you to take time away from the milk & cookies crowd with which you usually hang out to visit this humble forum; it is good for you to see what normal people are doing. You have come empty-handed, as you always do, offering up your whining and squawking for our amusement.
I must say we get a lot of laughs watching you flounder and wriggle your way through what must be arduous writing for you.
Almost as amusing is your knee-jerk response to comments which we make to goad you on. How predictable.

This description of your nom de plume is quite fitting, especially the canine reference:
Arthurstone: An atmospheric Neolithic burial chamber made of great stone slabs, in the hills above Herefordshire's Golden Valley. Please note: Dogs on leads are welcome.

This is more accurately a description of your behavior:
Bigoted: stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one's own.

Your unrequited love of Gerard is touching.

Gerard! Stop fooling around under those boxes and get back to posting for us. We're having withdrawal fits out here, longing for some weapons grade and timely snark from you. And if anyone knows where Arthurstone lives, I'll leave a box of stale donuts and some 3 month old coffee on his doorstep; his ramblings deserve SOME reward!

I’m happy to hear you’ve found new digs in the Golden State, and I don’t want to harsh your new found mellow, but I feel I must pass along this safety tip: Movers should always wear sturdy, comfortable, preferably steel toed shoes.

Good luck with the move, Gerard.
I'm moving this weekend, too.

Susanville, California is nice, but you may as well live in Reno, Nevada.

I spent a year providing in-home moving estimates, THE ONLY KIND YOU SHOULD GET. Online moving broker-hawkers are setting people up for heartache. Hope you are treated right. And don't forget to walk thru the truck when they're done!

Moving is a chore but exciting in a way; there are new adventures ahead. There's a lot of good people out here fighting the good fight. Glad to see you will be one of them. God bless.

Sorry to post twice.

Jeez. We're all talking about Gerard's move like he was going, the moon or something. As if he survived some huge disaster and was walking to his new abode, perhaps an underpass on some freeway with only a knapsack on his back.

I don't know about you gentle readers, but back in the day (I'm sixty-seven) when I pursued sex-drugs-rock 'n' roll, back in the days when I stole some horses, I was, shall we say, very mobile. Cash in my pocket and a tank fulla gas, one step ahead of the sheriff's ass.

As I got older and more conservative I accumulated stuff. Don't we all? It was still rent a van, get pals and horse it all into the truck, drive to destination, unload. Done. As I got still older I'd hire some moving outfit and they'd horse it all into the truck, go, unload.

Utilities, recon the neighborhood, sleep on a mattress on the floor until bed got put together; walk around boxes and cartons, dine out, paint and clean if any was needed. This is what a lot of folks do and still hold down jobs, get kids to school, keep doctor appointments, visit ma in the home, chase after dog that got a bit rambunctious exploring new turf, so forth.

A guy like Gerard, he has some brow. This ain't the first time for him and might not be the last. He runs this blog so well I bet he could do it off the tailgate of his truck in some Wal-Mart parking lot. Heck, the Diggers did that all the time. Bonus points for whoever recognizes Emmett Grogan, Peter Coyote, Peter Berg.

My uncle Louie Lozko, we all called him "Letsgo Lozko", he raised bantam chickens. He once tried to make his chicken coops mobile, "neffer know when dem police come snooping round," he said. He mounted some coopage on the bed of a Ford one ton but when he tried get close to the coops he got the truck stuck and knocked down a couple sections of fence and lost one of his roosters who wasn't gonna get in that thing, no way. So he reverted to permanent coops.
