Good luck with that. The Obama is such an easy mark, seemingly omnipresent. I wish that I could avoid writing about the creature, and I wish you many good lucks in actually doing so.
Look on the bright side. It was clear last November that Barack Obama was the next president. It's been less than half a year and you're getting over it already. Who knows? You may even get used to the idea. When I was a kid I hated green olives and it took over a decade to learn to like them.
Disclosure: I'm an old-fashioned unreconstructed Sixties Liberal and have waited forty-five years for someone like him to be in that office. I don't know why any rational person would want the job but I'm glad he got it.
Meantime, I have been tracking your blog along with half a dozen others from what they call "the Right" since I started blogging over four years ago. Although we don't agree on politics, I love your wit, originality, oblique view of social trends and writing gifts. Same has been true of my other cyber-friends from that side of politics, but I have seen since the election a relentless, often over-the-top spray of negativity that gets on my nerves. In one case I simply unsubscribed via Bloglines and stopped wasting time and effort reading and commenting.
You have too much on the ball to get your panneezinawad every time you think of Barack Obama. Think of it as a variation of a twelve-step program to stop drinking the koolade.
To illustrate what I mean, remember how when the global financial meltdown started the whole problem was blamed variously on loans to people who didn't qualify, starting with Freddie and Fannie? I heard endless references to the Community Reinvestment Act and how moving welfare recipients into houses they could not afford was what started this mess.
There was a grain of truth to the argument, just as holiday candy contributes to adult onset diabetes. But as it continues to unfold (I still don't think it's over) the crisis continues to reveal layer after layer of confusion, corruption, unprecedented stupidity and ignorance among those way higher on the social, educational and financial scales than any welfare queens (or even limousine liberals, btw). With tent cites erupting, not only in America but all over the world, even the shock jocks don't prattle as much about lazy shirkers on welfare and how they started the whole mess.
TV plot lines are now including good people forced to live in their cars, and here in Atlanta a thirty-five story skyscraper is gonna be sold at the courthouse steps, a casualty of foreclosure on what has come to be called a "mortgage under water." Darn hard to connect those developments with welfare gone awry.
So chin up, guy. This and every day is the first day of the rest of your life.
