American InDigestion: August News-Fast

linus-and-lucy.jpg

With a customized page of Google Reader, I track about 214 sites on a regular basis. (You can see a selection from them at way, way down on the sidebar or at American Digest's shared items)

Today, I've been pruning the outrage out the Reader. It's been flooding my eyes and tangling my tongue until my most muttered motto has become, "I try to become more cynical every day, but lately I just can't keep up."

Enough. I'm taking the Reader, American Digest, and myself on a news fast for the month of August. There are, after all, other things to write about plus the task of moving this page from Movable Type to Wordpress/Thesis. And it's August. And besides,

We doctors know

a hopeless case if --- listen: there's a hell
of a good universe next door; let's go....

HT to Andy for the headline.

Keep rerunning some of your archive stuff while on your staycation, I'm fairly new here and the posts from a couple years ago are fresh to me....I've discovered so many things to read based on posts here, the Whittaker Chambers book, David Warren's thoughts, even the blogger at Reclusive Leftist whom I would never have visited on my own.

Well, my new job effectively has forced just such a fast onto me. In fact, just surviving has a way of refocusing one's priorities down to work, eat, sleep.

What little is left over is spent here and at One Cosmos.
