Unreal Money: Obama Deficit 9 Times More Costly Than the War on Terror

I've said it before and I know I'll be saying it again and again:

"A trillion here and a trillion there and pretty soon
you're talking about unreal money."

The news today is.... Obama to raise 10-year deficit to $9 trillion

If 1 trillion dollars is unreal money, how unreal is nine trillion dollars? It is 9 (Nine!) times more unreal than this:

Like the bomb above the figure just blows your mind, doesn't it?

Want more? Take a look at What does one TRILLION dollars look like?

And of course the three trillion dollars so far spent on the "War on Terror" has won that war. Right. Strange, then, that the country from whence comes most of the jihadi rhetoric, most of the money for extremist madrassas and most of the money to buy weapons is COMPLETELY unaffected by the "War on Terror".

The very least that should have been done is Jerry Pournelle's suggestion; every city that calls itself Moslem, where there were jubilant celebrations after 9/11, gets a permanent monument - 4 square blocks of parking lot. In the case of Riyadh, to include the King of Mordor's palace.

Also, in the case of Riyadh, it was never going to happen. Why not? Money (the Bush family's money and that of their friends) and oil.

Didn't Osama Bin Laden say the reason for attacking us was to bankrupt us, just like they did in Afghanistan to the Soviets? The Afghanistan adventure didn't hurt our coffers too much, but the Iraq misadventure sure has. Thanks W, and those that elected him.

Hate to nitpick, but I think the 1 billion dollar graphic is only 800 million. Makes one wonder if the trillion dollar graphic is missing a hundred billion here or there. When you're dealing in unreal money - it's easy to lose track.

Fletcher and RayGun, just clarify one thing for us please. You're good with 9 trillion dollars in deficit spending, right? Can we agree this is probably an underestimate as administrations tend to lowball these things?

Gerard,

Please keep hammering this home. We've got to figure out a way to make this real to the American people.

This debt is truly monstrous. It's far more destructive than Obamacare, Global Warming, or even 9/11, and we are allowing it to happen.

The debt service will kill us, and our kids will drown in it. It's got to stop now. We have to unwind the spendig.

Keep it all in context. every time they say a trillion its $3,333 for every man woman and child in america. nine trillion comes out to $30,000 for every man woman and child in america. Factor in the sixty three trillion that the government in in hock for and it come out to $210,000 for every man woman and child in america. keep in mind all those things that the 63 trillion got us: Cities falling apart, Outsourcing of jobs overseas, A massive influx of poor and uneducated folks. (Didn't know the war on poverty was won so we needed to import some more), Infrastructure falling apart. Manufacturing base disappearing, An education system turning out socially correct drones instead of productive citizens. A never ending cycle of victimhood to keep the activists, advocates and race baiters busy and employed. An EPA that needs to find more and more crises to stay relevant and keep the rules, regulations and money flowing to Stifle our industry more. A financial regulatory system that ensures trillions disappear with no oversight, A political system that keeps fossils in place and in power long after their expiration date. All of this is done to keep an oligarchy in power that has done nothing for the people it claims to serve.

The effects of the Kool-Aid appears to be wearing off, buyers remorse setting in:

Some numbers:
$9 trillion over ten years is $900 billion per year. Divide that by the oft quoted 44 million uninsured and you have over $20,000 per person, per year.

I am sure that every insurance company in America would jump at the chance to insure the entire group for that price.

Then the nanny state could leave the rest of us alone. It would be a hell of a price to pay, but I am already paying for someone else's mortgage, so why not? Maybe I can claim them as dependents on my taxes.

Mr. Chauvinist - No, I am not happy that the US Government is running a deficit that big. Which has nothing at all to do with what I said.
