Tragic, and accurate, but in need of about ten years' worth of update. These days, the right panel is someone staring at a cell phone while they peck away at it...walking down the street, bumping in to things as they go.

I hate to admit it, but most of those ARE an improvement to me personally. I am not a people person. If I would have had today's technology available to me as a kid, I would have lived a much more productive and happier life.

When I was a kid I spent many, many hours in the public library. I would stand in front of the stacks picking ne book at a time reading a few pages and if it was interesting I would add it to the growing stack to check out and take home to read. I would even read the encyclopedias page after page. The internet is like that but so much better. Easier to find related things and easier to find new things. It also changes the world because years ago you coud ony read what a handful of authors had to say and today the numbers of people you can read are enormous. Then there are the pictures. I can still remember the huge colection of National Geographic magazines in my 3rd grade class in 1953. I read or looked at all of them and was amazed at what is out there in the world. Today the internet is 10,000 times richer in pictures then all the National Geographic magazines ever printed. I think the internet is one of the greatest things that has ever happened.

Our internet satellite went down last Wed. The first day I went through withdrawals, the next, less so. I got a lot of stuff done that had been needing done for some time. The satellite was repaired this morning and I took my time about logging on.
