Interesting electoral image!

The W Brothers keep finding ways to make movies about the end of mankind as we know it. So long as it blows up the White House, audiences will cheer. This is, obviously, an advert for their next movie, when bam, they kick it up a notch, and essentially destroy the planet via special effects. Deus ex disaster. We need ever increasing scales of calamity to make us discover our humanity according to the Brothers.

Except I meant Roland Emmerich, but yes I was thinking of Independence Day and The Day After Tomorrow.

Assuming this is a metphorical depiction of the 2012 election I would say that, while it is nice to think that Obama will be swept out by a Republican tidal wave, it is far too early to predict such a thing.

Thus far he appears to be screwing up every way imaginable but I can't help but notice that the dominant leftist media is still covering for him so much of the electorate -not given to keeping themselves informed about politics in any event - think he is doing just fine. There is also the fact that the "stimulous" bill's massive bribes to selected constituencies don't kick in until 2010 which is certainly fortunate timing for the leftist majority in our congress. Add to this that Obama has better than three years left to push a majority into the status of government dependents. He is well on his way to accomplishing this thru his seemingly insane policies that, once fully implemented, will ensure economic stagnation (at best) and high unemployment for about as far as the eye can see.

I reckon these fondly hoped-for electoral results depend on whether a majority of the electorate will maintain the anger that is manifesting currently or whether they will simply forget, be distracted by some "crisis" cooked up just prior to November 2010 (and 2012) or allow themselves to be bought off. Since 40% (maybe more) of the vote will go to the leftists no matter what they do or who they run Obama only has to convince about 11% (maybe less) of the electorate that he is their man after all and with the leftist media solidly in his corner and an electorate that is as degraded, ignorant and indifferent as ours this may not be too difficult to pull off.

The colors are a little too vivid, and the composition lacks Hiroshige's delicate balance of void space and action.

No doubt like the rest of you, the first thing that occurs to me is Terence McKenna's treatise on Mind, Hallucinogens, and the I Ching, which predicts a transformative event of world-historical magnitude in late 2012.

I would change the graphic from "2012" to "EVENTS". If the Israelis attack Iran, as it seems they must just to survive, the world will experience a tsunami. At best, I'd say the Iranian response will severely impact the oil market and the global economy will go to hell. That the Obama administration will whine and simper some response about having "inherited" the Middle East problem will not help him electorally, but I don't think too many of us will have presidential politics at the top of our list of concerns when basics of food and shelter are in question. Meanwhile, the O's are off to win another campaign - this one for the Chicago Olympics and are holding a "distracted driving" summit to protect us from such idiocy as texting and applying make-up while driving. They have it all under control, folks. Go about your business. Have a nice day.

Well, what leaps out at me first is that there never was a CV-57 -- it was canceled before much was done but planning, and the reason for that is that it was a Midway-class ship. The picture is of a Forrestal-class "supercarrier", which superseded the Midways.

The second thing is the Chinese lettering. It looks like a Chinese political cartoon suggesting that Glowball Worming will wash the United States (and its military, the Navy being the part the Chinese are particularly concerned about) into the sea. If that's the intent, it's a deliberate metaphor, with the Rising Tide of Chinese Power being the realization of warming's inexorable advance of the sea.

Ric

Since when is the White House on a beach?

Posted by: Andy at October 1, 2009 9:49 AM

Ive fished the Potomac for years and never realized the tide could get that high....or blue.

I thought it meant Obama was going to be crushed by the USS Ronald Reagan in 2012. But what do I know?

Posted by: Velociman at October 1, 2009 2:40 PM

I sank your battleship.

Oops.

That is my personal #2 of disasters scheduled for North America... it is the La Palma Cumbra Vieja event.

This illustrates one of Obama's two guiding maxims:

"Apres moi le deluge."

The first, of course, is: "L'etat c'est moi."

The above are attributed to Louis XV and XIV respectively. However, I suspect Obama's coming political fate may more resemble that of Louis XVI. Shucks, Michelle is looking and sounding more like Marie Antoinette with each passing day.

MarkJ: Sounding, yes. Looking, not so much.

Even Renaldus Maximus did not slow the Leviathan. He may have only righted it.
Now if that wave is really taking out Washington, maybe we are getting somewhere. Phat chance.

Where did you find this? If I can find a higher resolution copy of it, I translate the characters.

Apocryphal. A pictorial vision of Man’s temporal and physical smallness.

Posted by: MizzE at October 2, 2009 7:32 AM

Damn. I forgot this was an invitation to be clever.

Posted by: Cobb at October 2, 2009 12:30 PM

If I depended on being clever I'd never write anything.

According to The Won, the name on the carrier should be "I.O.C. Copenhagen"

The waves are the tide of nature, ever cyclical ever repeating patterns. The american military piece and the white house are but flotsam and jetsam in the fractal tides of history.
