"By the pricking of my thumbs something wicked this way comes."

"Energy crisis, severe recession, now Swine Flu - did someone insert a line of code that said GOTO 1975?" - James Lileks (Lileks) on Twitter

Ah, Distopia, disaster and death. It seems we are half in love with all three easeful states. But don't panic, because as you can see here Gary Sinise of CSI:NY is on the case. And when Mac Taylor gets his forensic team and gigantic lab on the job, you can at least look longingly at Melina Kanakaredes as you expire. There are worse ways to go.

I had the Hong Kong flu in 68. Doing some research on the disease it seemed that in the US about a half million people were reported to have gotten HK flu, of which 33,000 or more died. What I remember about having it was the suddenness. We were up and playing one moment, and then we fell asleep...and didn't wake up when called. The doctor came to our house and quarantined the house. I wonder if they do that any more. When my kids got a severe form of strep throat, I quarantined the house with a sign to keep the kids away.
For us, HK lasted a long time, and I was out of school for 2 months, battling the aftermath of the illness....jaundice. I hope this is nothing like HK flu.
