Canned Goods and Tasers

EconomPic Data considers the stock portfolio you should be assembling to thrive during the collapse of civilization as we know it.

My first moves would be to build a bomb shelter, stock up on food (preferably canned), and buy some protection (I'd go with a Taser gun as I would prefer not to actually kill someone). Well, I personally can't think of any pure bomb shelter plays (although the housing index is up over the past three months), but over the past three months; Campbell Soup Co (which also happened to be the ONLY stock in the S&P 500 that was up yesterday) and Taser International are up 16% and 34% respectively. This compares very favorably to the S&P 500, which has struggled and is down 14% over that time frame. - EconomPic Data: "Armageddon" Trades Anyone?

That maps well enough to another item from Marginal Revolution Heard in the Halls at GMU

R: "I'm quite pessimistic about the current financial system. I've been buying gold."

A: "Gold? That's not pessimistic enough. I've been buying rice."

You can keep Taser. I bought when it $14 and then it went south. I kept with them for a long time, but I finally had to get rid of them.

Seriously. Taser? How about Smith & Wesson, Beretta or Colt? Just because this guy doesn't want to wield deadly force doesn't mean the rest of the country feels the same way.

I agree: a lot of good Monctezuma's gold did him - and he had a lot of it. DA's hunkerin' down survival kit, then:

refried beans, 100 lbs
-guns n' ammo
-bottled water
-vitamins (C especially)
-candy (jellybeans)
-sunflower seeds (super high protein)
-matches & candles
-lots of baby wipes
-lots of books
-hand crank radio/flashlight

what am I missing?
