This "Time lapse radar track of FedEx aircraft arriving into the Memphis hub during area thunderstorms" reminds you once again that whatever air-traffic controllers are getting paid, it isn't enough.

Posted by Vanderleun at January 9, 2006 12:31 PMThere was a long article years back -- I think in the NY Times mag -- about the ATC guys out on Long Island. Fascinating. And scary. The stress they are under means lots of substance abuse, ruined relationships and burnout.
There was a movie with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton called "Pushin Tin," which if it wasn't based on that article it was plagarized from it. Not a great movie, but if you're at all interested in the subject it's worth a rental.
Reading the article and seeing the movie was what helped me make sense of, and understand the stress of, the ATCs in "United 93."

Thanks for all of it.
