Land... Land.... Land.... Land.... FLEE!

FedEx Swarming Behavior

This "Time lapse radar track of FedEx aircraft arriving into the Memphis hub during area thunderstorms" reminds you once again that whatever air-traffic controllers are getting paid, it isn't enough.

There was a long article years back -- I think in the NY Times mag -- about the ATC guys out on Long Island. Fascinating. And scary. The stress they are under means lots of substance abuse, ruined relationships and burnout.

There was a movie with John Cusack and Billy Bob Thornton called "Pushin Tin," which if it wasn't based on that article it was plagarized from it. Not a great movie, but if you're at all interested in the subject it's worth a rental.

Reading the article and seeing the movie was what helped me make sense of, and understand the stress of, the ATCs in "United 93."

Sublime as your writing is, this ability of yours to find, and send your readers to, these fascinating places on the web is pretty wonderful.

Thanks for all of it.
