Happy Birthday Wikipedia -- World's Most Precocious 7 Year Old

wikipedia%2B1.bmp.jpgTomorrow is the formal 7th birthday of one of the few indispensible web sites of the known universe -- Wikipedia - the free encyclopedia

On January 10, 2001, Larry Sanger proposed on the Nupedia mailing list to create a wiki as a "feeder" project for Nupedia.[18] Wikipedia was formally launched on January 15, 2001, as a single English-language edition at www.wikipedia.com....
It is impossible to imagine what the new media, the old media, and the Internet today would be like if it were not for this invaluable resource. And what a resource it is:
"As of December 2007, Wikipedia had approximately 9 1/4 million articles in 253 languages, comprising a combined total of over 1.41 billion words for all Wikipedias. The English Wikipedia edition passed the 2,000,000 article mark on 9 September 2007, and as of 1 January 2008 it had over 2,154,000 articles consisting of over 937,000,000 words."

I think that , regardless of your political persuasion or social views, if you recognize the resource that this page provides you should give it a birthday present of a donation. I've just kicked in $50 -- which is cheap when I consider how utterly essential Wikipedia is to my daily work. You should give what you can.

As Howard Rhinegold has famously said: "What it is, is up to us."

Donate HERE and tell Wiki P. "Happy Birthday and thanks for the fish."

Pass this sentiment if not this post along. The gift must move!
