NBC "Internets" Ex-Girlfriend

Couric to NBC: "I'll be leaving Today at the end of May."
NBC to Couric: "Kate, you ignorant slut!"

BREAKUPS ALWAYS HAVE FALLOUT, and it usually isn't very attractive. The poster child for "ugly out takes that somehow make the wire" this morning is this picture released by NBC of Katie Couric. Hair lanky, overdone eyes slightly askew and with a nutso-putso cast to them, and most of all the droopy mouth that might drool at any moment. I'd wager real folding money you wouldn't find an "unglamor" shot like this in last month's media packet from NBC. But now that she's gone, its time to get the image of the "real" Couric out there.

Nothing says "Door. Ass. Bang." more than taking a really unflattering picture of your "Ex" (And we all have them.) and splattering it all over the Internet. Especially when, no matter how much he or she

says "It's not about the money," it is indeed all about the money. In Couric's case, somewhere above $10 million a year.

Churchill: Madam, would you sleep with me for five million pounds?
Socialite: My goodness, Mr. Churchill... Well, I suppose... we would have to discuss terms, of course...
Churchill: Would you sleep with me for five pounds?
Socialite: Mr. Churchill, what kind of woman do you think I am?!
Churchill: Madam, we've already established that. Now we are haggling about the price.

I don't know, I think the old blues guys still said it best. Like Big Joe Turner:

"Well, you keep on jabberin', talkin' 'bout this and that
You keep on jabberin', talkin' 'bout this and that
I got news for you baby, you ain't nothin' but an alley cat.

Come in this house, stop all that yackety yack
Come in here woman, stop all that yackety yack
Don't make me nervous, 'cause I'm holdin' a baseball bat."

That photo is the allegorical baseball bat.

Couric is living proof that we women can and do talk way too much about way too little, way too often. I suspect Couric will go the way Rather went, and faster. Her misdirected imitation girly-man assertiveness and reflexive uber-liberal politics make it inevitable. I'm looking forward to it.

CBS is definitely being consistent. After watching Couric's contemptuous body language when Bush was announced the winner of the last presidential election, she will surely maintain the editorial direction that earned CBS the publicly popular tagline of: "CBS. Rather Liberal." "Rather," of course, being the last name of the last moron that held that seat for a lengthy spell...

It's official.

CBS is the first major network to formally opt out of news in favor of infotainment.

I said "formally". We noticed the change years ago.

I was going to comment that what NBC did was truly tacky but that was before I read these comments unworthy of a back-road trailer park.

I would assume that the people watching Katie are the same ones watching Oprah; stay at home moms, the retired and unemployed/unemployable.

I would also then assume that the stay at home moms will be involved in one of the busiest times of their day when the Evening News is broadcast. Dad's now home and supper must be served. At this point, I think, Dad gets control of the remote and watches the news that he normally watches. If is was CBS, will he stay with Katie? I rather doubt that.

Same senario for the married retirees.

Shaeffer(sic) has improved CBS Evening News' ratings. If Tradespots offers contracts on CBS Evening News ratings with Perky Kate, selling short would be the good buy.

Wow, you are all just contemptable human beings... How is it living in the Hate Cave?

Posted by: kpd at April 6, 2006 7:55 AM

Aren't we lucky to have someone like kpd bring rationality, logic and careful definitions to our little discussion here?

First of all, kpd, it's spelled "contemptible". The only thing here that seems to fit that definition is judging strangers as a group from a distance, and the only one doing that is you. The rest of us are addressing the job related specifics of a particular public person. You may not agree with our mostly negative assessment, but that does not make us "contemptable human beings."

Second, where is the "Hate Cave" and when was it that we all moved there? I'm suffering from a delusion that I live here in Seattle with my family, but clearly you have better information. Please eludcidate!

So let me get this straight - Katie Couric goes for a higher paycheck and she's a whore?

What does that say about every working American?

Do you actually tell yourself that your antipathy toward her has nothing to do with her gender?

Posted by: vas at April 6, 2006 8:22 AM

Yup, it has to do with her barely concealed political agenda, and her lack of integrity. Gender's got nothing to do with it.

Prostitutes can be of any one of the four genders sometimes more than one at once.

Don't worry though. She'll be just fine no matter what is said about her. After all, you can't insult a whore.

Posted by: Gerard Van der Leun at April 6, 2006 11:34 AM

Now, I agree there are valid reasons to not like her, but the context of your quote had to do with the money involved in the new position - not political agendas. It is highly unlikely you would have called a man a whore under the same context. I think you saw a chance to take a cheap shot without realizing that it was sexist and insulting to every American working for a paycheck.

Posted by: vas at April 6, 2006 1:38 PM

Well, you are welcome to think that, but you are -- alas -- wrong. I've called many a man a whore for the same reasons as well as for other reasons, both in conversation and in other articles and in other articles on this site as well.

I assure you that it is quite possible for me to call a man a whore, vas you ignorant slut.

Posted by: Gerard Van der Leun at April 6, 2006 1:55 PM

And besides, if I could come up with a phrase that would be "insulting to every American working for a paycheck" I'd put it on a t-shirt and buy a summer house with the money.

Posted by: Gerard Van der Leun at April 6, 2006 1:56 PM

What does kpd stand for anyway? "Katie Please Die?" If so, I agree!

Posted by: markh at April 6, 2006 4:36 PM

I just can't help myself. When someone is as closed mind as "kpd," I just have to go to the lowest common denominator to help someone like that feel as superior as they think they are.

It's my "feel good" public service for the day!

Posted by: markh at April 6, 2006 4:43 PM

Lets hope Gerard finds the winning t-shirt phrase his longer stuff is not going to pay the bills.
