You Are Kind of a Big Deal

"You're small in this world, but spiritually, you're MASSIVE! Can an ocean love, a mountain know, or a galaxy chose to change directions? No, but you can. And you'll still be around long after all this has passed."

HT: The Immortal Morgan @ House of Eratosthenes

Play this full screen. Seriously.

He's quite right. But ask yourself this also; is it not likely that somewhere, in the deeps of Time and the depths of space, there is a far greater soul than yours? Or mine?

According to the best info I have, the Universe has been around for around 13 billion years and stars that might possibly have become host to life such as ours for about 8 billion. Following the logic, this means that there are entities out there whose species became sapient 2-3 billion years ago.

Homo sapiens is maybe 100,000 years old. Which means that there are souls out there from races ten thousand times as old as ours. What heights have they reached?

"Can an ocean love, a mountain know, or a galaxy chose to change directions?"
Um, they don't "need" to.

"... And you'll still be around long after all this has passed."

I have different plans:

19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

If you think the Taj Mahal is testament to vast love a husband has for his wife, the universe is infinitely more extravagant and seems built to supply infinite wonder and creativity.
