These could all be American singers, couldn't they? Such is the impact of our popular culture on the singing of old hymns and the style of singing in other cultures. It is fascinating that almost all the singers chose nearly the identical 'blue' notes and meandering phrasing, which has become the norm in singing this hymn.
Not that I am nitpicking or complaining. The song itself is the truest of truths in every language.
And that is why they sing it in every language, too.
Just beautiful. One of my favorite renditions of this is by the Atlanta Pipe Band (sample it on iTunes - and check out Steam Train to Mallaig as well). Thanks for sharing this. This song is universal.
