The Overview Effect

Full screen highly recommended....

"On the 40th anniversary of the famous ‘Blue Marble’ photograph taken of Earth from space,

Planetary Collective presents a short film documenting astronauts’ life-changing stories of seeing the Earth from the outside – a perspective-altering experience often described as the Overview Effect. The Overview Effect, first described by author Frank White in 1987, is an experience that transforms astronauts’ perspective of the planet and mankind’s place upon it. Common features of the experience are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understanding of the interconnection of all life, and a renewed sense of responsibility for taking care of the environment."

Had the same feelings as an air transport pilot back in the '50s and '60s. it was the best we could do back then, because space ships hadn't been invented yet.

Profound stuff from a meritoriously privileged vantage point. But from the perspective of the chaos beneath the stratosphere, it merely emphasises the sad fact that we have wasted a chance to crack the Universal Code and ensure life everlasting for humanity. We blew it. Cowardice caused us to crap out.

"Planetary Collective is a group of filmmakers, visual media creatives and thinkers who work with cosmologists, ecologists and philosophers."

How does a "thinker" differentiate himself from these other types? Perhaps by the coating of banality he can overlay on perfectly exquisite views of earth (although all are capable of this repetitious trivia spouting).

And what's with the Ed Harris beanie? Perhaps he views himself as Christof.
