Something Wonderful: Dubai New Year Fireworks 2014

Dubai 2014 fireworks display breaks Guinness world record:

DUBAI: Dubai has ushered in 2014 with more than half a million fireworks spectacle, breaking the world record for the largest such display ever, Guinness World records said today.

Ten months in planning, over 500,000 fireworks were used during the display on the New Year's Eve which lasted around six minutes, with Guinness adjudicators on hand to confirm that a new record had been set.

Covering a distance of over 94km of the city's seafront, the display incorporated some of Dubai's top landmarks, including Palm Jumeirah, World Islands, the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab, Guinness said.

The spectacle's final salvo of fireworks created an artificial "sunrise" along the seafront, with the highest fireworks reaching more than one kilometre in height.

It is amazing what Arabs can do with a large, foreign, imported slave force.

It is beautiful to behold. Also, Arabs with over 500,000 explosives and they didn't blow themselves up? For that alone they deserved the Guinness. Still, who doesn't love fireworks?

Nancy - I imagine that the relatives of 2,996 people who died on 9/11 might have a different attitude to Arabs in relation to fireworks.

Pity there wasn't an extra sunrise over at least one city on 9/12. How's that for fireworks?

My, but it seems we are taking a collective dump in Dubai's punch bowl. Which first has to be desalinated and then trucked out with all the other raw sewage, since they don't have the knowledge or the means of purifying shitty water. But the fire works are lovely. Especially for the camel jockeys who got to stay up past their bedtimes. So Precious.

Your petro-dollars at work.

Why would Muslims celebrate the non-Muslim New Year like this? Sheesh, it's already seventy days into Islamoyear 1434. The Shi'ites have already flayed the sh*t out of themselves twice. What's the big deal?

It's for the tourists. Who aren't all Muslims, but bored westerners in search of something to fill the very shallow void in their tacky lives.

Even though I recognize the danger Islam represents, I am shallow enough that I would have liked to have seen this.
