Something Wonderful: David Hobson - The Holy City

Well, I guess it's time to blow open the gates and get started on Christmas. This should do the trick.

And once again the scene was changed,
New earth there seemed to be.
I saw the Holy City
Beside the tideless sea.
The light of God was on its streets,
The gates were open wide,
And all who would might enter,
And no one was denied.
No need of moon or stars by night,
Or sun to shine by day;
It was the new Jerusalem
That would not pass away,
It was the new Jerusalem
That would not pass away.

Thank you for introducing me to this magnificent voice! I had never heard this song, nor the name David Hobson. Two beautiful gifts!

New to me, but delightfully full of what is best about music: it's best when it's shared.

Plus, it's the only good thing that happens in crowds.

Thanks, Gerard. This helps so much. I lost my father 12/5. He loved Christmas so much and I'm trying not to let his home-going ruin mine. As usual, you've touched my heart.

I tend to be in the shadows. You have a special gift not only in your writing, but in bringing beauty and surprise to people's attention. I am shocked that I had never heard of this beautiful hymn. I have been mesmerized ever since you posted it, because I cannot help but find an uncanny resemblance between tenor Hobson and Ambassador Christopher Stevens. Thank you for inspiring me.
