Something Wonderful: Caine's Arcade

Get the fun pass. Trust me on this one.

A 9 year old boy - who built an elaborate cardboard arcade inside his dad's used auto part store - is about to have the best day of his life.

P.S. Gets better on the second viewing.

UPDATE: "2 days. 1 million video views. Over $73,000 raised for Caine's Scholarship Fund. Wow. Internet hug!" --(33) Caine's Arcade

I have a rule in life.

When the Girl Scout wants you to buy some of her (over-priced) cookies, buy some. Even if you're overweight or a diabetic, buy the cookies.

When a Boy Scout knocks on your door selling tickets to the Scout-o-Rama, buy a ticket. Even if you're not going to be in town that weekend, buy a ticket.

When some kid puts up a folding table and is selling Mom's lemonade out of a pitcher, buy a cup.

It'll be the best money you'll ever spend.

Thanks, Gerard. That was nice.

That made an mean, old redneck I know cry.

Just when you think nothing can be great again...

Can you get rid of that Obama guy, and elect Caine?

He would get your country moving again.

just when it seems all's lost for this old country, Gerard has to post this! What a great kid and a great Dad! Americans fixing things and making things, it's what we do. Thanks Caine, you are proof we ain't done yet!

That is before the police in SWAT gear knock over the lemonade stand and shoot the family dog for not having a permit.

Cain Cardboard Arcade was a great story.

Thanks, Mr. Vanderleun

I just couldn't stop smiling while watching this thoroughly inspiring video. What an adorable and precocious boy! Kudos to all the wonderful people who became involved in making all his hard work and perseverance into an event in his life that he will never forget.

What an awesome dad to not only encourage, but enable Caine's dreams! Caine may some day rule the world!

And he did it all without cell phone, Facebook, video games, cable TV, radio, e-mail, instant messaging, YouTube,...
In other words, he used his imagination to create his own reality instead of living in those created by others.

"And I was proud." That's how you build self esteem!

Thanks Gerard. This is another of the "finds" of yours that make this such an awesome blog.

I used to deliver freight not a block or two from this arcade on Caesar Chavez Blvd. It's a hard but proud place. This kid, the dad, and the people involved make me proud just to know they are out there. If that kid so much as hints he wants to learn about engineering he'll be helped every step of the way. People in engineering are looking for kids like this. I like the self-starting, persistence, and "just getting it done" rather than seeking publicity because he might try it someday. Go Cain! He's more a man now than many others 3 times his age.

Thanks AZLibertarian for the great idea about the kids. I usually try to do just that, but I'll make sure I don't miss one again.

Never mind Caine - this made my day, too. Thankee kindly, Gerard!

I've watched this a couple of times, here, and the best, and most important line in that film, is, "And I was proud."
