Something Wonderful: "29 years old and hearing myself for the 1st time! "

This just in from "The Age of Miracles and Wonders."

"I was born deaf and 8 weeks ago I received a hearing implant. This is the video of them turning it on and me hearing myself for the first time"

Wonderful.

And to think there are deaf parents who won't let their kid have such a procedure done because it "threatens group solidarity."

No. Really. Some deaf parents have been swayed by progressive "multi-culti" nonsense, becaue deaf people are a cultural subgroup or something.

If she could never hear before, how can she speak so well?? All of the deaf people I know sound like Charlie Brown's teacher, on max volume...
Did she have some incredible speech therapist?
This isn't cynicism...I'm truly stumped on this one.

That was beautiful, Gerard. Thanks for passing it along.

I gotta go with Uncle Jefe on this one. Seems unusual...

Don't know. I'm tone deaf on this question.

If her deafness was not neural then she could learn to speak through bone conduction. But this was an amazing video, choked me up.

No way she was faking that emotion.
That was the real stuff.

On a point of technicality, how can someone who has never experienced the aural sense before understand the question "Can you hear me?" when she has her hands over her eyes? Presumably she was able to lip- read only, prior to the procedure? Are we to assume that it is possible to imagine sounds without having heard them and then to interpret those sounds immediately without the aid of the erstwhile lip-movements of the speaker? Or was she only partially deaf previously? Just askin'.

Hubby could have scored some major points by saying "I Love You" and having that be the first words she heard. Just sayin .... :-)
