Someone Wonderful: "For unto us a child is born..."

Sir Colin Davis conducts the London Symphony Orchestra, Susan Gritton, Sara Mingardo, Mark Padmore, Alastair Miles and the Tenebrae choir performing Handel's Messiah. Recorded in December 2006.

Just in case we forget, from time to time, who is really governing the world:

For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called
Wonderful,
Counsellor,
The mighty God,
The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.

-- Isaiah 9:6

Several million years ago when I was young, had a voice and noticed that the University choir was women, 10 to 1, I sang.

The Messiah.

Closest I've been to Paradise. Better than sex, better than anything.

Now we're in the Spirit!

I was counseled by my priest this past year to practice "holy detachment" and to laugh at Satan's feeble attempts, as Christ has already won the Victory (a term the pretender in the WH is too "enlightened" to use).

I don't claim to have mastered "holy detachment," but when I find my spirit pulled toward the vortex, I envision the saints, who Chesterton contrasts with the introspective closed-eyed Buddha, with their wide-eyed, sometimes wild-eyed, expressions as if they're about to burst into crazed laughter. If we manage to take the long view, Satan's cheap counterfeits of our Someone Wonderful are hilarious. We sing with joy...

Wonderful,
Counsellor,
The mighty God,
The everlasting Father,
The Prince of Peace.

The Alpha. And the Omega:

"Worthy is the Lamb that was slain, and hath redeemed us to God by His blood, to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory and blessing. Blessing and honour, glory and power, be unto Him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb, for ever and ever. Amen."
--Revelations 5: 12,13. (Finale of Handel's Messiah)

Aside from the fact that poor Isaiah has been mistranslated by Christians to predict Jesus... the music is great.

Inspiration. Worship. Peace.

Amen.
