Dogs: converting pet food into happiness and naps.

My dog seems to know when I'm going to take him for a ride in the car. Sometimes even before I know myself.

Woof!

A cat, on the other hand, damn well KNOWS you're going to the vet...and every time, too. Science has yet to explain this.

Getting a cat into a carrier for that trip provides more adventure than a bungee jump.

...and I've got the scars to prove it!

Ha! Not necessarily...show a dog how to push on the steering wheel to turn the car (in a large space/vacant parking lot at lowest possible speed)and in short order the dog will make the connection.

This happened accidentally with our '68 Caddie convertible and a Springer eager to get on the road...he loves flyin' the Coupe with the top down...and yes he wears a 4 point safety harness.

Meh. Our dog could also tell when we were headed to the vet.

Maybe that's what is wrong with us - no treecats. (Forgive the SF allusion!)

Posted by: Fletcher Christian at January 31, 2012 12:38 AM

Mr. Christian - We had one who must have been part treecat, only four limbs, though.

JD, I think treecats are one of SF's better aliens. Cute, cuddly - and hideously deadly if you mean them harm. (And of course, they can tell.)

The German Shepherd we had when I was a youngster loved car rides so much that mention of the word "car" had him go out of his mind!

We got to the point of using words like "automobile", "the convertible", and "Pontiac". Alas, he figured those out. When we got a new car in 1966, "Plymouth" only threw him off for about two days.
