Boomer Anthems: "Stop in the Name of Love" is 50 Years Old

asupremes.jpg

The Supremes recorded "Stop! In the Name of Love!" in January 1965 and released as a single on February 8.

I've known of your
Your secluded nights
I've even seen her
Maybe once or twice
But is her sweet expression
Worth more than my love and affection?
But this time before you leave my arms
And rush of to her charms
(Think it over) haven't i been good to you?
(Think it over) haven't i been sweet to you?

Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop! in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Think it over
Think it over

That first picture is a real piece of art. In the days before photoshop, making their legs look THAT long had to have taken untold hours of effort.

Motown is like Sinatra, is like Big Band, is like jazz, is like all the stuff from the 30's and 40's. Hated it when I was a kid. I liked Rock n' Roll. Later on my taste in music matured all the way to Bluegrass, Mozart and Bach. Now I'm 62. Still hate Motown, Jazz and all the rest of that stuff.

What is interesting to me is the endurance of much of the music from the 50s and 60s.
It is not "great" music but it had melodies and lyrics you could understand with no effing this and bleeding that.
The crap of today is like a Kleenex: use once and discard, never to be thought of again.
We live in a disposable world.

I like metal (Metallica, Alice in Chains), big band/jazz.....and Stan Getz. Maybe some old country.

I didn't notice until I saw the "photo" from a distance. There's a fuzzy gap in their dresses about half way between the waist band and the fur. Once you see it, it's so obvious it can't be unseen. Thanks bud.
