The falling leaves drift by the window
The autumn leaves of red and gold
I see your lips, the summer kisses
The sun-burned hands I used to hold
Since you went away the days grow long
And soon Ill hear old winters song
But I miss you most of all my darling
When autumn leaves start to fall
It's a glorious season. So many wondrous things happening. The changing leaves, the hint of frost in the air, the ducks and geese flying south, the trout hungrily rising for your fly, deer and elk in rut, bears putting on those last pounds before denning up, and much, much more. The natural rhythm of life. The world preparing for winter.
I love it.
The best part of Walden pond are the railroad tracks hidden behind the trees on the left. At least from a kid's perspective.
I learned to swim there back when it had a concrete pier and folks could enjoy it rather than gather for worship. Roland Wells Robbins, who uncovered the location of Thoreau's cabin in 1945, used to live two houses down from us on Old Concord Turnpike and, IIRC, was working as a house painter at that time.

Posted by: DeAnn at October 23, 2013 7:15 PMI love living in a place that has four very mild and even seasons. Especially having grown up in a place that went from summer to deep winter in the blink of an eye. Thank you. This pairs well with your mom's cookies.
