Annan: UN Peacekeeping Operations in Africa Hindered by Lack of Available Troops
"Secretary-General Kofi Annan says peacekeeping missions in Africa are being threatened by a lack of available troops. Mr. Annan voiced concern that Africa may come out on the short end of an increasingly tough competition for peacekeepers.Yes, that wretched US again. Making life difficult for Annan and the UN by asking it to fulfill its purpose. Especially vexing this time of year what with all the parties and such, what? Posted by Vanderleun at December 19, 2003 5:22 PMThe secretary-general said the growing number of peacekeeping operations seems to be outstretching the capacity of countries willing and able to help. He said appeals by the U.S.-led coalition are making his life more difficult."
Can only ask : "Where are all those hypocrites?"
Brazil's Lula wants to have a bigger say in the Security Council (some things he said while in Syria and elsewhere on his recent tour of Arab countries).
All those loud mouths in Europe have certainly shown how rediculous Annan's statements are.
Why does China not help in Europe? and so on.
Let's just forget that the US coalition did not exist when things in Rwanda heated up.
As Ben Gurion said: "Um Schmum!".
Re: Kofi Annan -- President Bush and members of his Administration stood up in front of the UN and tried to make the case for a unified attack on Iraq based on Saddam's having WMDs. The majority of the UN did not find the facts that the US presented to be believable; it turns out the majority was correct. Now the US has been asking for UN assistance in Iraq, and Annan has sensibly pointed out that there are a great many nations in the world that need UN help.
