Food's Up but We Have a Wiener in the "Presidential" Category for the The White House News Photographers Association

"The White House News Photographers Association"? Who knew? These days you need to form an "Association" if there's more than one person who wants to grind tree stumps on the moon. Still, the WHNPA gathered together to select the "best" in their annual auto-fornication festival, WHNPA Eyes of History 2011. This one is entitled TELE=BAMA taken by Kevin Lamarque for Reuters.

It's a bit too Nick Cage in Face/Off for my tastes, but does have some allusive echoes of Louis the XVI at the end of his tumbril ride in 1793. It probably should have been passed over for that reason alone. Especially in light of today's new and historic achievement of his presidency.... so far:

obamafoodprices.jpg

Food prices soared 3.9 percent last month, the biggest gain since November 1974. Most of that increase was due to a sharp rise in vegetable costs, which increased nearly 50 percent. That was the most in almost a year. Meat and dairy products also rose. -- Yahoo! Finance

Of course this is no surprise to anyone who, unlike the Obama's and their fellow travelers, actually has to pay for their food of late. The bite at the register is actually more than 3.9% overall as almost everyone in the nation who passes through the check-out line will attest.

The response from the First Family of Spongers? Implicitly it is, "Bread too costly? Let them eat organic, local, artisanal, sustainable cake at four times the price."**

You know that "tumbril ride" to the guillotine in 1793 mentioned above? Well, history may not repeat, but it rhymes.

UPDATE: This snippet just in on the standard fare from high on the food-chain that the First Spongers enjoy:

As with any VIPs or friends who dine at the Source, Drewno sent signature items to the Obamas’ table: tuna tartare cones, squares of suckling pig, tandoori Arctic char. The first couple make a point of having those items added to the bill. (We clearly travel in different circles.) Drewno made sure to take the beets off that Arctic char dish because the president doesn’t like them, a tidbit he had known beforehand.--The mission at a restaurant where the Obamas dine: Remain calm. - The Washington Post

He did take time out to remind us to think about the suffering of one of the world's oldest civilizations while we're betting on college basketball. What a sensitive guy.

Voton - Have you looked at the site that our President recommended for guidance, as to how individuals could help the Japanese? Japan isn't even one of the choices on the site's main search and although after sufficient hunting I was able to find three organizations helping Japan (although not necessarily concerned with the current disasters), I don't think "Peace Winds" is the group that I would choose to spend my devalued dollars during this emergency, nor would I send money to the other group that USAid.gov linked me to because the website was written entirely in Japanese. I didn't bother checking further, as I concluded that it was a waste of time.
I did manage to control my temper, at the level of the White House's incompetence, long enough to send them a nice message asking if someone could please ask the President to put off on his basketball guessing long enough to actually do something constructive to help. (they have not replied)

My cell phone provider (Verizon) offered the easiest and most efficient way to make a donation simply my sending a text message which adds the $10 to my bill. Free enterprise, anyone?

In re: the "tumbril ride", my mind always flashes to the image of Mussolini, his mistress, and henchman hanging from the girders of the Esso station.
