Have to be the dissenter here: the bow in Japan was probably a good thing. Bowing in Japan absolutely does not mean what it means to us here in the west. It is not like Obama sat in the assembly of Nebucadnezzer and , unlike Daniel, instead of defying the king went ahead and bowed to the graven image. No. Bowing in Japan is a sign of basic everyday decency. Everyone does it and on official occassions it takes on official significance. A powerful man who bows deeply to another is showing the ultimate sign of respect. With that bow Obama just won over Japan for anything America could want or need from Japan for the remainder of his presidency. From here on out whatever Obama wants from Japan, the 2nd most powerful economy in the world, he can get. No Kidding.
