History's Ironies: White House Rat Line Went Up on 65th Anniversary of Anne Frank's Betrayal

If it hadn't been for Der Trolls, I would have missed this one.

This morning I dropped this particularly astute illustration from Perfunction into my Sidebar and went on about my work.

Achtung! Do you know this girl? Report her to the White House. -- Perfunction

And remember, kids, Obama's dissident database could be secret -- and permanent.

Strangely, since the Sidebar has lots of items but few comments, the following two comments appeared in very short order:

Wow, you and Perfunction totally missed the point. It's not about "informing" on fellow citizens. The White House wants to find out about what sorts of rumors (lies) are being propagated (e.g., health reform will lead to euthanasia), so they can be prepared to counter them. Also, as a relative of Holocaust victims, I'm especially sickened by your use of Anne Frank—one more victim of the extreme right. Posted by: Arthur Tilley at August 6, 2009 12:57 PM
The fevered imagination that came up with this little atrocity must have thought it was really witty - and people who post it probably can't imagine how disgusted most of the rest of us are growing when we have to witness your crassness and dishonesty. Only really stupid people would fall for a campaign like this, and they're already mostly on your side - FAIL! Posted by: Stephen at August 6, 2009 2:22 PM
Fairly ho-hum stuff as far as trolling goes. But it made me think more about Ann Frank, and looking her tragic history up, one fact stood out. August 4th was the 65th anniversary of the betrayal of Anne Frank
On the morning of 4 August 1944, the Achterhuis was stormed by the German Security Police (Grüne Polizei) following a tip-off from an informer who was never identified.
As fate would have it (and it must only be Fate since the WH folks are not that dumb. Are they?), the flag@whitehouse.gov rat line was announced on
TUESDAY, AUGUST 4TH, 2009 AT 6:55 AM The White House - Blog Post - Facts Are Stubborn Things There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can't keep track of all of them here at the White House, we're asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.
All of which is only to note, once again, that history, like nature, bats last.

No doubt your troll 'friends' also objected to the repeated comparisons of our former President to Hitler from 2001-2009...

Sounds like the Obama Polizei are upset when someone points out The One has no clothes.

Your trolls would prefer we merely compare 0 to Stalin perhaps? Ahhh, what a great human being (and ally) he was. And he provided such great care for his citizens. So many of our loving American left adored him so. Such a fantastic leader. The masses were mesmerized.

Hey check this out, on this date in history he took part on the commission of the joint plenum of the Central Committee and Central Control Commission of the C.P.S.U.(B.), drafting the resolution on the "breach of Party discipline" by Zinoviev and Trotsky.

Sounds like he no longer appreciated contributions in THE party. Gee, I wonder what happened to them next?

From encarta:

1934-1939: Purged political opponents, initially within Communist Party leadership, and later throughout the USSR, leading to arrests and executions estimated in the millions.

Sounds like a man who "got things done".

What's with the Blue Cross? Man, that's fucked up. At least use Cigna or United Health Care or Aetna.

Atrocity of the extreme right? This is a logical fallacy deemed a "category error". It refers to the French assembly around the time of the revolution in which the two main factions assumed seats according to their particular affiliations, one to the right and one to the left. It is somewhat obscure what their actual philosophical positions were but are peculiar to time and place.

The terms left and right have become all purpose pejoratives that display extremely muddled mumbo jumbo masquerading as thoughtful analysis.
