Happy Birthday to We: Communist China's 60th Birthday Party

chinatanks.jpg

Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) heavy tanks prepare to make their way on to the main east-west thoroughfare, the Avenue of Heavenly Peace, in Beijing on September 18, 2009, as the government rehearsed for a huge October 1st parade that will mark 60 years since the founding of Communist China. Security swarmed the Avenue of Heavenly Peace, shooing citizens away from what will be the parade's route through the heart of the city and past Tiananmen Square. Is it just me or is there a chilling resemblance in all those pictures to the old Soviet May Day parades with all the military hardware, or the Nazi rallies in Nuremburg with the thousands of choreographed participants?

Thanks for the link, Gerard.

No, it isn't just you, DC. That's a May Day parade for sure. Such things automatically make me think of The Wizard of Oz: ignore that man behind the curtain! Or ignore the millions of people living in squalor within these borders! Or ignore the wretched sitting in prison cells because their speech and thinking needs to be corrected. You get the picture. Big shiny tanks and gigantic missiles on the backs of flatbeds and row upon row of marching men in spotless uniforms have a way of soaking up all the attention.

Just a technicality. Those aren't tanks, but appear to be surface-to-air missile launchers of some type. But yes, the parallels to the USSR and the Third Reich still apply.

Keep buying that Chicom crap folks. Let's help them try to make theirs the most powerful military. That should bode well for world peace.
