Dumbth and Dumbther

New Scientist becomes Non Scientist "You might think journalists at a popular science magazine would be able to investigate and reason." You'd be wrong.

Shit Francisco - The Worst-Run Big City in the U.S Who screwed this gay pooch? "Yomi Agunbiade, that's who. Metaphorically, that is.... In San Francisco, running a city department like a Franz Kafka nightmare doesn't cost a decisionmaker his job."

There is a crisis; something must be done! What we propose to do is something. Therefore, it must be done! -- Pajamas Media サ The Precautionary Principle and Global Warming

Scare Tactics David Warren: "It would be interesting to see some attempt to estimate the total direct cost to the world's taxpayers of all the scare-mongering since Rachel Carson's Silent Spring first started appearing in the New Yorker magazine in June 1962. Each scare, in turn, is packaged and marketed with more skill than the previous; each enjoys its run in the world's headlines, and the frenetic political attention we are watching in Copenhagen in its most advanced form. Each in turn is gradually forgotten as more facts come to light, as the apocalyptic predictions fail, as the story line bores through repetition. And then a new scare needs to be invented."

Why Are Europeans White? Because they're not indigenous to Australia?

"Right now, money is free. Bernanke is keeping short term interest rates effectively at zero. If you're a bank of a certain pedigree, or a financier with any wherewithal, these days are the greatest ever." -- Buy - Cobb

neo-neocon on lies beyond the dreams of Orwell Obama's C-Span lie is only one of many promises -- about raising taxes, about posting bills online for 72 hours, about earmarks -- that have been broken with a brazenness that can only be called Orwellian (if that were not an insult to Orwell) and/or Soviet in its scope.

Yomi Agunbiade needs to become an Obama czar. I suggest National Park Service Czar.

On the "Why are Europeans White" thing:

This image in the sidebar at the link where the article resides:
http://knol.google.com/k/-/-/k16kl3c2f2au/4tokm2/e1-08.jpg

Does NOT show Europeans of 16K years ago as 'dark-skinned.' The depiction of deer/elk and humans is primitive and barely representational.

Another case of sloppy science?

The comments at "New Scientist" are delightful reading.

My favorite sentence so far:

"This is what happens when megalomaniacal, money-fuelled, scientific glory-seekers meet politically-motivated activists."

Quite.

"since Rachel Carson's Silent Spring first started appearing in the New Yorker magazine in June 1962."

I wonder how many other such lies the New Yorker has published. For instance, remember the contemptible "Currents of Death" by Paul Brodeur which the New Yorker published in the 80's? I don't think they've ever printed anything on the debunking of that load of offal.

Second favorite pithy comment so far:

Moreover, you seem to say simply: The science is settled; cease the debate. Thus, you fail to explain why we should continue to fund research when the science is settled.

And this gets a lot of things cleared up:

I used to subscribe to the New Scientist. I used to enjoy the articles, but towards the end of my patience, week after week they were constantly harping on "global warming" it got completely tiring.

Farewell.

“Potatoes, bubbling up, knocked loudly at the saucepan-lid to be let out and peeled.”

Hear Governor Rick Perry say former buddy Al Gore has "gone to hell".

Wonder what the libs are going to believe in next. I know it won't be God.

Mizz E.

I suspect that they'll just keep on believing in the almighty State.

There's just gotta be some other "moral equivalent of war" they can invent that'll rile up the masses somewhere...Barring that, there's always War war.
