File under: I am not fucking around."An armed resident gestures a victory sign in the main square in Zawiya, 30 miles (50 kilometers) west of Tripoli, in Libya on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011." -- Battles Across Libya

"V" for Victory gesture: Check
Shotgun: Check
Cigarette: Check
Cartridge Belt: Check
Running Shoes: Check
Big split-your-skull-in-two ax stuck in belt for close work: Check and double check.

UPDATE: Cobb, in The Truth About Hairy Chested Men has a few cogent things to say about this man:
I have been writing this essay over a period of days, and it has been hijacked by the following image into something that must include class more explicitly. This is the picture of a man who is a rebel in Libya, a foot soldier in a true people's liberation army of irregulars. And I am forced to consider him a Marlboro Man in his country. He is a man for whom I presume many American women would have considerable ick factor to overcome. I can't see his chest, but I find it difficult to imagine it not being naturally hairy, and if it is not, I find it inconceivable to imagine it shaved. There he is with his shotgun, his ax and his cigarette. He claims victory. Forget about geopolitical strife for a moment and think about American men. Think about a bearded, hairy chested American man with a shotgun, an ax and a cigarette. Could he claim any sort of victory with American women, or is he Larry the Cable Guy?

I'd go for neither. Instead, this fellow -- if he so wished to do so -- could claim a Hobbsian victory over an American woman: "nasty, brutish, and short." Indeed, I seem to recall we had a live demo of that a couple of weeks back in Cairo:Details emerge on Lara Logan attack

You mean that's not the All-Purpose Power To The People/Solidarity With The Oppressed Masses/Peace Sign?

I gotta get out more.

Looks like his ammo belt is empty; probably hailing down the local arms merchant's cart

A freedom fighter. Obama hates those. He prefers wussies who use google to bring down a 30yr ally and union goons to do his dirty work against tax-payers. It had to be the biggest insult to him when the "Lybian" rebels called out for Bush. This guy doesn't look like the google or facebook type and I doubt Obama's overtures via NASA and that embarrassing Cairo speech resonated with this rugged MAN. Remember the NHL ads? Well... Obama wouldn't make in Islam. Hell, he can't even make it in America. And America was MADE for opportunity and success. Affirmative action, fixing elections, voting "present", turning memorials for 9yo murder victims into his 2012 campaing kick-off.. What a pathetic excuse for a... what.. man? American? President? I don't think any of these apply. Empty suit is a compliment for him.

How Logan makes sense of her trips to Egypt will be very interesting to read.
Here she is on Charlie Rose days before she was assaulted, but after she was detained.

I saw a comment online, a liberal that sounded like Logan, describing a sign held by an Egyptian saying "Tourists come back. We will protect you." She (assuming only a bleeding heart woman can be this stupid) said it was so touching. How kind, how sincere.. how touching.

She was wrong on Mubarak leaving, she was wrong on the army's allegiance, she was wrong about the Muslim Brotherhood. She forgot she was in reality. These people love the way they look and sound on camera. Period. She won't forget although the story of her attack has been suppressed. The "firm" (or is it a cult?) for which she works does not deal in reality. They are so impressed with themselves they can't imagine reality. They don't value her safety. She was wrong in her reports and the only reason it matters is because she was so badly attacked. What was the point of her investigation if she was wrong. Naive. Delusional. Hell bent on blaming America. It's so engrained in their existence that she'll probably be on the ground in Libya next week. I will never understand these reporters, like the ones who accidentally crossed into Iran while hiking..??..in Iraq. Al Gore's reporter who was held in N.Korea.. Even Daniel Pearl. Don't we have secret agents doing the investigative stuff? Their motive is to make America look bad. Why can't they now rely on google to bring down dictators and Wikileaks to undermine America's missions? Listening to her, she is an addict. The drug is the need to damage America and it's allies and especially Israel. She is a useful idiot for the cause. They all are.

The women jumped on top of her to protect her from rape. They are the real story.

They are so impressed with themselves they can't imagine reality.

You're right. But it's still reality that jumped up and bit her in the ass. She was lucky to get out of there alive.

Is that his camel's blanket?

This man isn't a freedom fighter, he's a target.

The shotgun is not a long distance weapon and he's going to have a hard time overcoming the AK-47 maximum effective range of 450 meters. Assuming the regulars just laugh at him as they get closer, his lack of ammo will then be his next problem. But he's always got his axe. A shorter one with a smaller blade would be much more useful since he's only going to get one effective swing out of that one.

Daffi is going to go all medieval on these guys and it's going to be a blood bath.

I also don't consider the rebels freedom fighters so much. It's looking increasingly like these are just the out of power party looking to take over. That's not freedom.
