An actual mission to Mars would be excellent.

But before that can happen we have to practice.

Which looks a lot like prepping for the Tour by riding a stationary bicycle at the gym.

But this actually an important step. In 1492 you could send out three ships to find Chinca and if they got lost ... well it was only a vagabond Italian and some scruffy sailors.

The cost of loosing a manned Mars expedition is a lot more than that. So .. we practice.
