The WPA enabled some decent art. Murals in post offices were nice.

Posted by: vanderleun at May 27, 2014 10:57 AMDown around my place our post office has a mural from WPA artists. Also, many of the sidewalks were poured by WPA. After, what, eighty years or close enough most of the sidewalks are still there and in good shape.
When I first heard of the WPA and the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) I thought it was for losers and dregs. I was wrong big time. Back then there was no thought of cheating welfare and to take handouts was unacceptable. My father worked in the CCC and earned twenty five dollars a month. Our family was proud of him. BTW he learned a few trades skills as well.

Grandfather worked in the CCC. Bridge builder and crane operator (the Watergate was one of his job sites).
