Southwest of Cortez, Just Off the Rez, Those Stimulus Dollars are Working, Working, Working....

recoverysign.jpg

Near the Four Corners. Close to the border of the Navaho Nation near Cortez, Colorado, we came across this fine example of the focus of Federal Funding. That's right, nothing to be seen in any direction for many, many, many miles. Was the road the project being repaired and refurbished? Nope. Patched and potholed before and after. The only project that could be said to be new was the sign itself. Other than that I read on the back side of the sign this inscription by Zombie:

Obamandias

I met a traveler from a once free land
Who said: A vast and fathomless ego hath
Scorched the earth. Nearby, on the sand,
Half sunk, a shattered visage lies, whose contempt
And tilted chin, and sneer of cold command
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read.
Few survived that parliamentary Armageddon
The rest were run out of town on a rail, or fled.
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Obamandias, king of kings:
Look on my legislation, ye Mighty, and despair!"
Nothing beside remains. Round the ruins
Of that colossal Self, burnt and bare
The lone and lifeless prairie stretches far away.

UPDATE: Dueling versions. This one from Callmelennie:

Obamandias

I met a pundit from a Beltway land who said,
Two cracked and polished screens of glass
Lie in a Rose Garden. Near them, in an Oval Office
Half stunned, a shattered Redeemer sits whose lies
And upturned nose and sneer of cold disdain
Tell that this Messiah ill his nation's spirit read
Which yet survive stampd in life affirming things
The hands that cling to her and the sons who bled
And on the screen these words inscribed
"My name is Obamandius, Bringer of Change
Look upon my -Bots ye righties, and despair"
Nothing besides remains. Round the wreck
Of that colossal ego, unbounded and malign
The vain and empty dream did fade away

What is that logo on the sign at the lower right, partially obscured by the bush? Looks like it might say "TIGAR". The orange and black colors might make sense with that.

Obviously they're laying out a Dead Road Sign boneyard, much like the one in Arizona for old airplanes...

The sign is crooked, as well.

Maybe that's the prototype for the new and improved border fence that Obama would like. Whatever it is, "shovel ready" is certainly an appropriate description.

The perfect addition, Jewel. I have made it so. Thanks.

The sign seems to call out for a vulture sitting on top.

Just sayin'

Hope you are on the way to see the Black Canyon of the Gunnison. I was there last fall and it is spectacular!

Maybe it's a future high-speed train route! Or not...

It's like all those dead monuments to Franklin Roosevelt we all grew up with, discovered out in the back of beyond after a 2-day hike - 0bama's vision of immortality.

More importantly, Happy Birthday, everybody. I'm 66, and no, I didn't think I'd survive this long either.

Is this one of the many entry points from the south for future Democrat voters?

I say we have dueling Obamandias and settle this thing once and for all. Remember this, Gerard?

Dueling Obamanjos!

Come on, now. Teec Nos Pos is a hoppin' place!

That looks like one of them thar billboards that Doc Sarvis specialized in. If you happen one night to see a Lincoln Contintenal Mark IV out there, driving along with its "pistons, bathed in oil, slipping up and down in the firm but gentle grasp of cylinders", you'll know that that sign is not long for this world.
