Proof a good American can own a Prius.

Probably a retiree from Fresno Ca. Doubt it's from L.A. or SanFran.

Some gave all, and came away with nothing
Many gave nothing, and came away with everything

Fitting epitaph for the late, great United States

Heh. I like it.
Also, a valuable counter-meme to the idea that everything associated with leftists in the popular mind is necessarily evil, or at least ideologically contaminating. This guy probably just has a Prius because it gets good gas mileage, and doesn't care about the whole carbon-credit the-planet-will-burn frenzy.

The gentle beauty of "Obama lied, a shelter pet died" tells me that the owner of the car is a woman.

Posted by: Gloria at September 5, 2010 9:36 AM

DANG! In my experience, EVERY car with this many stickers belonged to a leftist.

Sam L:
I agree. That's been my experience too.

Maybe she's an ex-leftist. She may still wear Birkenstocks, too. It's been known to happen. You never know.

It's a hybrid. What do you expect but mixed messages?

Posted by: twolaneflash at September 5, 2010 4:01 PM

One of my closest friends is the protoypical "middle-aged hippie", complete with gray ponytail, Birkenstocks, and, yes, sadly, a Prius. Except the guy's voted a straight GOP ticket in every election since 1972, takes the 2nd Amendment very seriously and packs wherever he can legally, and has been a frequent participant at his local Tea Party gatherings. Looks can be deceiving.

Your friend took the hippie message of freedom and liberty seriously, and wasn't deceived by the anarchist and communist interpretation that became mainstream...

I drive a Civic hybrid myself, purely because it's an excellent and comfortable car that's cheap to operate (in part because of the tax breaks I get for it, true, won't turn down an opportunity to get back some of the extortionist taxes I'm charged as a middle income white person).

Posted by: JT Wenting at September 7, 2010 1:45 AM

JTW, I say the "sadly" part about the Prius mostly in jest, because I have been my friend's accountant in the past, and know how low his operating costs are on that vehicle. And the tax breaks lower those costs even further. I'm sure the Honda hybrid is similar. But not for me. At some point when I return to the U.S. and again need a car, it'll probably be another (used) Benz, especially if I have long commute.

Bumper stickers are such a unique US thing. You never see any in Canada.
