Powerful stuff.

Both videos make the important point that much of partisan politics is just bread and circuses for the masses.

The call for democracy to push back against totalitarianism just doesn't ring true. I feel sorry for conservatives, history just doesn't run in the direction Pat is hoping. Faith indeed.

No, history runs in the direction of the camp and the darkest side of human nature.

The EU has camps in its near future. Again.

Spengler (David Goldman) warns of a massive flood of refugees coming into Europe from North Africa. It's only a relative trickle at the moment and it will only be accelerated by the recent "Arab Spring" uprisings. The EU leaders know this - they're not stupid - but so far it looks as if their only response is to propagandise their citizenry with the "you'll learn to live with Islam, it's not so bad" BS. Never mind about border security/integrity.

I can't see this working out well at all. In fact I suspect it will be bloody, and that the EU armed forces will be facing their fellow Europeans when they first open fire.

Democracy too is not divine--
Von Mises

Universal suffrage is a detestable element of government, but it is a powerful revolutionary instrument. If the brilliant talkers and writers of that eighteenth century were to return to life, I do not believe that gas, or steam, or chloroform, or the electric telegraph, would so much astonish them as the dullness of modern society.

Princes had turned violence into a physical thing but our democratic republics have made it into something as intellectual as the human will it intends to restrict. What concerns me in our democratic republics is not that mediocrity will become commonplace, but that it may be enforced- Alexis T.
