Obama's Bathtub

Deep down, it's shallow:

DC's not-so-reflecting pool is full of algae after $34 million renovation The Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool reopened to the public at the end of August, after an almost two-year renovation costing $34 million. After being recently filled back up with water, it is now full of algae. Ironically, the new pool was intended to "improve the reflectivity of the water" with tinted concrete.

Nobody in government ever gets fired anymore. And lots of things the government does, it's just busywork to keep everybody doing stuff.

And algae is a feature, not a bug. Now they are going to have spend more money for something to harvest the algae and filter the water. And lots of govmt employees are going to glom onto that.

It's happening everywhere. It takes 5 cops to arrest a single harmless film-maker at midnight. If the government gets involved, a ton of guys with nothing else to do show up. They all gotta be involved, doing their part, justifying their pay.

A great winnowing has to happen.

If a writer had used this as a symbol in a political novel he'd be accused of being ham-handed, and too obvious.

Damn Bush! How did he manage to screw this up, despite Obama's careful oversight?

JWM - yep.

I'm reminded of when I was in high school. Our swim team was fortunate enough to train at the aquatic center used for the 1990 Goodwill Games - but only after they drained the pools and refinished the surfaces, which had originally been coated in water-soluble paint...

Looks like a cess pool at a sewer treatment plant to me. Oh! That's what, it is, sorry.

It's the new "Green" reflecting pool!

I thought the President was going to make gasoline out of this, like wine out of water or something.

There's alge in the White House too, and not USD $34 M but, according to the sidebar: "...Doofus, Boob-Belt, Sicklee and Sausage" cost USD $1.4BBbbbillion last year. $34M--chump change, you chumps...

"You chumps..." --??-- who are you talking to, chump?

Errrr, apologies. . .

I meant to say, "We chumps. . ."

Washington, D.C. There's nothing it CAN do.

Except spend our money like a drunken sailor in a whorehouse with a credit card. That, it does a bit too well.

1.4 billion just isn't enough.
