Jonathan Winters, always one of my favorites. You highlighted one of his very best. I also always enjoyed him on his various variety show appearances (Smothers Brothers, Laugh In, etc). His brand of zany craziness, made him a classic American comic.

A very funny man. His topic was the human condition not current events. He will be missed.

His best work was the voices of "Schultz & Dooley"

One of the funniest humans ever, and certainly the funniest guy I ever met. Funny because, like the recent mention of R. Crumb, he'd just do stuff that was unexpected and never self-conscious.

I never could see the appeal of It's a Madmadmadmadmadetc, but I think mostly because I'd seen Jonathon Winters in the early '60s. The volumes of subtext in his facial expressions could never hope to be equaled in mere slapstick.

Now that's funny.

The Jolly Roger quips: Now he's got worms "all over his body!"

RIP, Mr. Winters. Thanks for the laughs!

Sail cat?

Summer 1964. 6th grade. Mikey and I found just such a critter- winged it off the bluff out on to Whittier Boulevard. Looped out over the street like a lopsided frisbee. FLOP.*SCREEEEECH*

We hid in the storm drain, and didn't get caught.

My favorite Winters role... stealing from the government:

Funniest comic I ever saw. A sweet man.

A graduate of Kenyon College in Ohio (along with Paul Newman). During class reunions, he would do stand-up routines ad lib at The Pirate's Cove on campus.

There are no comics anymore. There used to be many. Something very sad has happened to our country. Of course, we're all socialists now, and socialists are grim, humorless puritans.

A genius. That clip from Mad Mad World is one of my all-time favorites. The first time I saw it, I was literally screaming.

His performance in "The Loved One" is also a favorite. I think I'll watch it again tonight.

Bob, there's a movie making the rounds on cable, Liberal Arts. If you like Kenyon, you'll love it. Most of the movie is shot there. The closing credits role over the Kenyon ladies singing I Want a Kenyon Man. No, I was one of those guys down at OSU.
