You know how you always wanted to know what to say during a massive Swiss avalanche? Here's your chance....
Posted by gerardvanderleun at February 8, 2014 8:38 AMWhile waiting for my wife at the Post Office yesterday I witnessed an avalanche. It started on the north facing slope of a very steep peak in what is called the Bitteroot Range in east central Idaho. This is part of the Continental Divide.
The sight was awesome even though I was some seven miles distant. The wind blew snow for what looked like a mile across the top of the peak. No camera of course!

This was not as rapid as some of the avalanches I have observed in the Colorado Rockies. It sure left a lot of junk for the road crews to clean up not to mention the "pollution" of the stream channel.
