Dieting: Just When You Think You're Beyond All Temptation.....

Having been literally killed by my diet, I am trying to adjust. But this country doesn't make it easy. Fair Warning: Generally unsafe and far too vulgar for any human environment.

I recall the story in Exodus, where the Jews, after being freed from Pharaoh miraculously through the Red Sea, protected day and night by a pillar of fire, fed miraculously in the desert by manna, and whining about the lack of meat. So the Lord provided them with lots of delicious birds and they gorged themselves to death.

Which is why I believe the story of Moses is true, having seen this video.

Don't feel like you're alone. For thirty some odd years, my Dad's diet was killing him too, and it was prescribed by his doctor. My dad inherited arterial disease, and had his first heart attack at the age of 32 in 1965. The "heart diet" of the time was no fat, high in carbs. He never lost weight and cholesterol was always off the chart. (He was never obese, but always husky). After 30 years of no-fat or low-fat diets, by his third heart attack and subsequent triple bypass, his new, young doctor asked him to describe all of his diets over the years and then said "We're going to try something different".

After 30 years of no bacon, no eggs, no red meat of any kind, the new guy put him on the Atkins diet. He was ecstatic! He not only lost 50 lbs, but his cholesterol went down 100 points and he came off the meds. And his triglycerides bottomed out as well. His bypass was in 1990, and he's 12 years past his 10 year warranty. There is no "one diet" for all. (I can't do Dad's diet because I have low blood sugar. I passed out after 3 days when I tried it).

Okay - the F-U pizza may be a bit much for anyone :-)

The high-carb diet killed all kinds of people in my family too. After having some bad blood work a few months ago, I went with what I knew from my reading over the past ten years would likely work....cut out starch and sugar. Not exactly Atkins because I don't limit non-starchy veggies, but honestly, it's hard to over-eat veggies anyway.
Six months and thirty pounds lighter/later, my blood sugar is normal and my cholesterol/triglycerides are within normal ranges for the first time in my entire life...yes, even when I was very young, thin, active, and healthy-diet conscious. I may just dodge this genetic bullet.
