Climate Crack: Don't Put This In Your Pipe and Smoke It

TEOTWAWKI.jpg

It's Tar baby time here at the end of the world! Everyone who's into it will have their say about the CRU Climate Change Scandal, but if you're wise you'll just put out the lawn chairs, open a cold one, sit back and watch the passing parade.

In other words, don't be as stupid as I was and actually download and start to look through the files and emails. It's like smoking crack, or perhaps like smoking crack would be if I ever smoked crack.

One email leads to another. One document leads to another. One hint leads off onto other hints. One distressed email over the Global Warming-er-Climate-Change gaff being blown trails off into another as the Knights Who Say Nicht of the CRU Climate Change Castle fend off one "denier" after another. Collusion abounds as billions are siphoned off from the treasuries of the world.

In short, the 61 megabytes of inside dope is addictive, online crack free for the smoking. I'm warning you to JUST SAY NO.

But, if you must....

As always Watts Up With That? is your goto source for the latest on this story even though Tony Watt, at the epicenter of the controversy is, well, fried:

"Today, the most extraordinary day in climate science seen in quite some time, was no exception. And, the day is not over. But honestly I’m too tired to continue."

If you simply must have the uncut dose it's currently, among many other locations, available for download HERE. (61 megabytes zipped and don't say I didn't warn you not start reading this because I just did.)

Since there are nearly 2,000 emails in the email folder alone, you might want to simply head over to a thoughtful site, Alleged CRU Emails - Searchable which comes with the coy proviso:

As these emails are already in the public domain, I think it is important that people are able to look through them and judge for themselves. Until I am told otherwise I have no reason to think the text found on this site is true or false. It is here just as a curiosity!

What's it all about in the end? A commenter at Talk-Polywell.org was suitably pithy when he said: "It's really pretty amazing to see such naked prostitution of science to an agenda."

The world may or may not be warming, but this aspect of the debate has certainly heated up. The number of sites commenting on the CRU over the last day (as seen via Hadley cru hacked - Google Search has gone from 61,000 links to 83,000 in the last two hours.

85 billion is in climate "research" now. People assume a Phd. scientist is always in demand, but most are looking to hook up like everybody else and pay off the loans or the alimony.
Most scientist know very well it's junk science, but their own job is likely to depend on not upsetting yet another government pipeline they are employed in. That is the Moldbug maxim, more or less. We are corrupted top to bottom in government money.

I've already made several comments on this thread at Neo-Neocon.

To condense them, it just may be Providential that this has come out now. It might be enough to derail Cap & Trade and Copenhagen. At least I hope so.

Hmmmm....

Tar Baby, he don't say nuffin.

Posted by: Rob De Witt at November 21, 2009 11:47 AM

Curious.

I did the google search string "Hadley cru hacked" and 15 or so minutes ago it found 88,000 (even) links and just couple minutes ago it had dropped to 87,700 (even) links.

I'm not up on my google fu but could somebody illuminate to me what could have caused that discrepancy?

Are people delinking or deleting their searches? Is that even possible?

Posted by: monkeyfan at November 21, 2009 2:33 PM

Weird. Now it's back up to 88,100.

Posted by: monkeyfan at November 21, 2009 2:39 PM

Leave the Hadley off and you get 322,000.

I don't think the emails are as damaging as the code might turn out to be.

Anybody can read emails. It will take the focused attention of engaged and informed tech/geek types (and I pray there are dozens, scores, hundreds of them hammering away right now) to even begin to recognize what the code and data might mean.

How sweet it would be to find "2003cooling???.dat"
dated one week before "2003hotternhellyesma'am.dat"...

That's a lot of data there. Just think, if they lose global warming as a lever, they'll have to turn to nationalizing huge parts of the international economy and count on western nations to march in lockstep into some sort of world government. Shucks, they might as well destroy the economy while they are trying that, right?

What?

Watergate cured me of my addiction to deciphering. I'm taking your suggestion on the lawn chair and will pop in the DVD when it comes out in a few years. Truth will out.

Copenhagen was already dead. The Chinese killed it and BO said how high when they said frog.

I would say that this should be curtains for GW, but there is way too much money at stake for these @$$#013$ to give up. So I expect them to obfuscate, spin, evacuate squid ink, and seek cover from the MSM. It has a ways to go.

I agree that it is too early to celebrate the demise of the AGW conspiracy. However, I've never enjoyed an introduction this much: "Hubris - I'd like you to meet Nemesis."

Thanks, Gerard, for frying your brain so we don't have to. Shall we say a batch of cinnamon rolls in trade? :)

Posted by: askmom at November 21, 2009 8:22 PM

Yes, Western Chauvinist, while waiting for the fruits of that introduction between hubris and Nemesis, I've entertained myself with reading the comments in Tony's WUWT post. A few of the best:

kurbo (08:24:19) :

What a wonderful day for humanity !

The hoax is over, the kids can go back to playing and stop worrying about the polar bears and the criminals who brought this scam upon the world will now be put on trial. The “green” movement was hijacked by socialist progressives and used as a weapon to scare the world into their “vision” of behavior and tax us into oblivion. Now it is over and the revolt back to common sense is on ! Yeah !!

With all the time, money and effort wasted on AGW, we could have really done some good in the world. Wake-up everyone, time to use that energy on real problems…

royfomr (17:27:49) :

For what it’s worth, IMHO this is from a mole within.
The hacking claim is a red (green) herring that attempts to minimise damage and aspires to get a positive by writing this off as a reactionary attack by evil-forces, financed by shatanic capitalism.
Somewhere, within that organisation, there lurks a person brave enough to spill the beans. Yup, laddie or lass, you crossed a line but History will treat you with much respect!
Dunno who you are but you are a Hero

Konrad (17:40:17) :

I’m thinking that if this material turns out to be genuine, some of the folks in the emails may consider a long holiday in Cuba. No one will find them there, Al Gore has erased it from the map…

P Gosselin (09:15:38) :

Of course this will probably follow the path of the Okeefe/Giles Acorn sting. Rather than clean up a corrupt organisation, the focus will most likely be on prosecuting the hackers who uncovered all the rot.
Telling the truth in a tyranny is a revolutionary act.

Gold, God, and Glory. What part of the Triumverate is not displayed in these e-mails?

And for people supposedly bright, they had an uncanny knack of writing down the most damning things.

Posted by: Mikey NTH at November 22, 2009 11:47 AM

Deep in the Ninth Circle of Bolshevik Hell, Trofim Lysenko reads the "climate research" e-mails, shakes his head in wonder, and mutters, "You magnificent bastards, I salute you."

GVDL!

Why didn't you warn us? This stuff is addicting...

OOps...you did...about 5 times....

incredible stuff, but intuited by thousands, perhaps millions of us who know that Science is not bullying. I think Ian Sholes prepped us pretty good back in the 1980s. Remember his NPR radio spots called Dr. Science where he would send up the religion of 'Scientism' in short strange vingettes? "It's Science!!"

Posted by: Das at November 22, 2009 12:54 PM

Narrator: "He knows more than you do!"

Dr. S: "I have a master's degree... (pause) ...in science!!"

Albert Gore ever the salesman is now offering his carbon credits at a discounted sales price. If you want to order them directly from his web site ref.:
"CRU hack" in the code box to receive another 25% discount.

I wonder if Dan Brown and Opie Cunningham will write us a nice little movie about this religious scandal.

Need to educate myself on this..
