Boomer Anthems: "It was fifty years ago today / Jimi Hendrix burned his guitar away...."

If you can just get your mind together
Then come on across to me
We'll hold hands, and then we'll watch the sunrise
From the bottom of the sea

[Chorus]
But first, are you experienced?
Have you ever been experienced?
Well, I have

Speaking only for myself, but starting around the time this song was released in 1967 I was "experienced" about 60-65 times over the following four years. My old friends say this single fact explains so much about me. I demur.

Thank You. Hendrix was awesome! What could have been if he had lived!

Whew, fifteen-plus times a year? That's a lotta acid, Cisco.

It probably does explain a lot, but you could never describe what that is anyway. You know.

I've been thinking recently about how much of the 60's music (acid rock) was dedicated to describing or re-creating the psychedelic experience. It wasn't dance music; it was trippin' music. A lot of groups tried their hand at it. Some stunk (Sonny Bono), and some did a remarkably good job. I think of Jefferson Airplane, or even some of stuff by Country Joe and the Fish. Acid was a blast back in the day. Maybe I'd do it again if I thought I could find the real item. Maybe. Sometimes it was great fun and sometimes, well- it was way more fun than you wanted.

Acid saved my life. I had a really hellish childhood. Ran away from home, in New Mexico, age 15 and visited the May Day protests in DC in 1971. Saw the Beach Boys, Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, Melanie, Abbie Hoffman... and did some orange sunshine. First time ever the noise in my head ceased. This amazing formula welcomed and enveloped me. Did it almost every weekend for the next 10 years, almost always alone. At age 25 I figured I'd done about 400 trips. Then I stopped. THEN... it disappeared! Where is it?? I guess visiting a high school parking lot is not recommended. Hendrix was my guru back in those days.

Ever "experience" Hendrix live? The man just oozed charisma. And what he could with a guitar before all the modern tech. Difficult for me to imagine where his music would have gone. Seems to me that he was a "voodoo" child gypsy for that time.
