Thinking About My Series of Dreams Last Night

A world where the final digit to Pi had at last been computed, and they were folding up the mountains and the stars were going out, and the car had no reverse gear, and the brakes were holes in the floor where your shoes could be pressed against the asphalt, and the smell of singed leather.

Sweet music. Where is that from in the Dylan discography?

beautiful, beautiful. that old man has got several good tunes left in him; it will be my great pleasure to carry the colors for him as long as I am able.

You should have heard this song when he performed it live on the Grammys, right before he was given some kind of lifetime achievement award or some such. This was back in 91, 92? He and his band were perfection, scratchy voice & all. Indeed, several years later in a print interview that Eric Clapton did, he cited it as one of the best live performances he had ever seen. I remember watching it and thinking, "Holy shit, this is something." I don't know why one little song would feel as good as it does, but it really can get to me.

I try to see him whenever he's in my area. Just in the past few weeks I saw him in Scranton and Philadelphia. His band is magnificent, and he plays a selection of songs from various phases of his career, including several from recent years.

Anybody who goes to a Dylan show expecting to see a nostalgia act is in for a hell of a surprise. I've said many times that I wouldn't mind seeing a show consisting entirely of post-2000 songs.
